31. Skeletal muscle calcium homeostasis during fatigue : modulation by kinases and mitochondria
Sammanfattning : The use of skeletal muscles in daily activities and even during strenuous exercise resulting in fatigue requires precise regulation of force and the timing of contraction. To achieve such performance characteristics, vertebrate skeletal muscles have developed a unique control mechanism for regulating the free Ca2+ concentration in their myoplasm ([Ca2+]i). LÄS MER
32. Molecular mechanisms involved in the generation of calcium signals in insulin secreting cells
Sammanfattning : Intracellular Ca 2+ regulates diverse cellular functions in almost all the cells. In the pancreatic ß-cells, Ca 2+ signals are critical for insulin secretion. An increase in the cytoplasmic free Ca 2+ concentration ([Ca 2+ ]i) triggers insulin secretion. LÄS MER
33. New insights in parathyroid hormone secretion : with focus on exocytosis and calcium signaling
Sammanfattning : The parathyroid is distinguished from other endocrine systems since its primary stimuli inhibit hormone secretion. It is generally considered that extracellular Ca2+ binds to a membrane receptor (calcium sensing receptor, or CaSR), and via second messengers modulate parathyroid hormone (PTH) secretion. LÄS MER
34. The role of T-type calcium channels in human pancreatic β cell maturity
Sammanfattning : This PhD work has optimized a series of in vivo, ex vivo and in vitro approaches to recapitulate, intervene and appraise in vivo maturation of naïve β cells within human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived islets (hiPSC-islets). These approaches have also been applied to characterize hyperglycemia-induced dedifferentiation of mature β cells within native human islets grafted into the anterior chamber of the eye (ACE) of immunodeficient mice. 35. Antiarrhythmic and arrhythmic effects of an Ikr-blocking class III agent. A clinical and electrocardiographic study of almokalant
Sammanfattning : The interest in class III drugs has increased over the last decades as being potent antiarrhythmic agents in their mode of action by prolongation of repolarization and with no effect on conduction. Class I antiarrhythmic agents have proven effective in conversion of atrial fibrillation (AF), but may cause serious proarrhythmia. LÄS MER
