1. Myocardial electromechanical function in long QT syndrome
Sammanfattning : AIM: The aim of this thesis is to assess, in LQTS and according to genotype, the myocardial electromechanical (EM) function response to exercise, its relation to symptoms and its response to b-blocker therapy. To achieve this aim, we conducted 4 studies with the following specific objectives: i. LÄS MER
2. Repolarization studies in the long QT syndrome
Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Background: Sudden cardiac death in the young is predominantly caused by inherited cardiac conditions. Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is one of the most common of these disorders. Since risk stratification relies largely upon the heart rate (HR) corrected QT interval (QTc), it is crucial to identify an appropriate method for QT correction. LÄS MER
3. Antiarrhythmic and arrhythmic effects of an Ikr-blocking class III agent. A clinical and electrocardiographic study of almokalant
Sammanfattning : The interest in class III drugs has increased over the last decades as being potent antiarrhythmic agents in their mode of action by prolongation of repolarization and with no effect on conduction. Class I antiarrhythmic agents have proven effective in conversion of atrial fibrillation (AF), but may cause serious proarrhythmia. LÄS MER
4. Global sequence and dispersion of ventricular repolarization: In vivo validation of non-invasive parameters using monophasic action potential mapping technique
Sammanfattning : The purposes are to validate the noninvasive parameters, QT interval, QT dispersion, Tpeak-Tend interval, and the activation recovery time (ART) for estimation of global dispersion of ventricular repolarization (DVR), and to investigate the changes of repolarization sequence and DVR by altered ventricular pacing sites. The material consisted of 12 patients (Study I) and two series healthy pigs with 10 in each (Studies II and III; Studies IV and V). LÄS MER
5. Traces of Repolarization Inhomogeneity in the ECG
Sammanfattning : Repolarization inhomogeneity is arrhythmogenic. QT dispersion (QTd) is an easily accessible ECG-variable, related to the repolarization and shown to carry prognostic information. It was originally thought to reflect repolarization inhomogeneity. Lately, arguments have been risen against this hypothesis. LÄS MER
