  1. 21. Hip fracture prevention by screening and intervention of elderly women in primary health care

    Författare :Daniel M Albertsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :hip fracture; fractures; mortality; women; aged; risk factors; risk assessment; accidental falls; questionnaires; accident prevention; house calls; exercise therapy; drug therapy; bone density; BMD; absorptiometry; intervention studies; primary health care; Sweden;

    Sammanfattning : Hip fracture prevention by screening and intervention of elderly women in Primary Health Care Daniel Albertsson Background – One in four Swedish women suffers a hip fracture (HF). In order to identify high-risk women we developed clinical 4-item scores as the FRAMO (Fracture and Mortality) Index, evaluated heel bone mineral density (BMD) and undertook interventions to improve mobility, reduce falls and HF. 2. 22. Factors in secondary prevention subsequent to distal radius fracture : Focus on physical function, co-morbidity, bone mineral density and health-related quality of life

    Författare :Helena Nordvall; Jack Lysholm; Gunnevi Sundelin; Margareta Möller; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; distal radius fracture; bone mineral density BMD ; functional tests; mortality; morbidity; the SF-36; fall diary; Physiotherapy; Sjukgymnastik fysioterapi;

    Sammanfattning : In Sweden approximately 25000 distal radius fractures occur annually, which is 37 % of all fractures related to osteoporosis. In this thesis, risk factors for osteoporosis, bone mineral density (BMD) and health-related quality of life (the SF-36) were compared in patients who suffered a distal radius fracture after low energy trauma with a control group matched on the basis of age, gender, and municipality of residence. 3. 23. Effects of gonadal hormone deficiency on bone mineral density : can physical activity increase bone mineral density in women?

    Författare :Ingrid Bergström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Physical activity; GnRH treatment; perimenopause; postmenopause. bone mineral density; prostate cancer; endometriosis;

    Sammanfattning : Osteoporosis with its associated fragility fractures is a global health care problem. The incidence of ftagility ftactures has increased dramatically the last 50 years. This has been suggested to at least in part be due to the sedentary lifestyle in the modem society. The prevalence of osteoporosis increases with increasing age. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Aspects of bone quality and risk assessments in fracture and elective orthopaedic patients

    Författare :Camilla Bergh; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fracture; Fracture incidence; Epidemiology; Mortality; Osteoporosis; Frailty; Spinal stenosis; Bone quality; Bone mineral density;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Bone quality, bone strength, and bone remodelling are important in many orthopaedic conditions and can have an impact on fracture incidence, bone healing, implant failure, and different outcome aspects. There is relatively sparse information on fracture incidence and mortality both for all fractures compiled and for some of the individual fracture locations. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Bone mass in the young athlete

    Författare :Ulrika Pettersson; Ronny Lorentzon; Olle Svensson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bone mass; bone area; physical activity; muscle strength; body constitution; amenorrhea; puberty; adolescents; young aduts;

    Sammanfattning : Bone mass and bone size accumulate during childhood and adolescence and peak in the twenties. The obtained peak bone mass has been suggested to be a major determinant of bone mass even in the very elderly. LÄS MER
