11. Medin amyloid - a matter close to the heart : Studies on medin amyloid formation and involvement in aortic pathology
Sammanfattning : Amyloidoses are a group of protein misfolding diseases characterized by deposits of insoluble fibrillar protein aggregates. Medin amyloid, which is the focus of this thesis, appears in the media of the thoracic aorta in nearly all individuals over 50 years. LÄS MER
12. Chlamydia pneumoniae in Aortic Valve Sclerosis and Thoracic Aortic Disease : Aspects of Pathogenesis and Therapy
Sammanfattning : The obligate intracellular bacterium Chlamydia pneumoniae (Cp), a common human pathogen, has been associated with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The aetiology of non-rheumatic aortic valve sclerosis has, however, not been clarified. LÄS MER
13. Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair : Clinical and morphological outcomes
Sammanfattning : In the years following its introduction in the late 1980’s, thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) rose as a minimally invasive alternative to open surgical repair of thoracic aortic disease. As a result, an expanding group of patients are receiving invasive treatment, even though evidence in the area is still scarce. LÄS MER
14. Advancing Endovascular Management of Thoracic Aortic Disease
Sammanfattning : Despite technological advances and new endograft designs, endovascular treatment of the thoracic aorta still has important limitations. The aims of this thesis were to obtain further understanding on specific limitations in treating complex thoracic aortic pathologies with current technologies, to gain more insights into the hemodynamic consequences of thoracic endografting, and to explores the potential of deep learning algorithm-based automatic assessment of follow-up CTA imaging. 15. Medin Amyloid in Human Arteries and its Association with Arterial Diseases
Sammanfattning : Amyloid is a form of abnormal protein aggregation within the living body. Massive deposits can lead to organ failure. There is also increasing evidence that smaller pre-amyloid aggregates exert direct toxic effects to cells. LÄS MER
