  1. 1. Bacterial Resistance to Antimicrobial Peptides Rates, Mechanisms and Fitness Effects

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Maria Pränting; Uppsala universitet.; [2010]
    Nyckelord :antimicrobial peptides; antibiotic resistance; fitness cost; bacterial evolution; small colony variants; cyclotides; Biologi med inriktning mot mikrobiologi; Biology with specialization in Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : The rapid emergence of bacterial resistance to antibiotics has necessitated the development of alternative treatment strategies. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are important immune system components that kill microbes rapidly and have broad activity-spectra, making them promising leads for new pharmaceuticals. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Antimicrobial Peptide Interactions with Phospholipid Membranes Effects of Peptide and Lipid Composition on Membrane Adsorption and Disruption

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Adam A Strömstedt; Uppsala universitet.; [2009]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antimicrobial; peptide; adsorption; liposome; membrane; melittin; cholesterol; tryptophan; phospholipid; bilayer; PHARMACY; FARMACI; Pharmaceutical Physical Chemistry; farmaceutisk fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The interactions between antimicrobial peptides and phospholipid membranes were investigated, in terms of lipid headgroup variations and the role of cholesterol, as well as peptide composition and structure. Also strategies for increasing proteolytic stability were evaluated. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Interaction Between Antimicrobial Peptides and Phospholipid Membranes Effects of Peptide Length and Composition

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Lovisa Ringstad; Uppsala universitet.; [2009]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adsorption; antibacterial; antimicrobial peptide; bilayer; ellipsometry; electrochemistry; electrostatic interactions; hydrophobicity; liposome; membrane; monolayer; phospholipid; secondary structure; supported bilayer.; PHARMACY; FARMACI; Pharmaceutical Physical Chemistry; farmaceutisk fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Due to increasing problems with bacterial resistance development, there is a growing need for identifying new types of antibiotics. Antimicrobial peptides constitute an interesting group of substances for this purpose, since they are believed to act mainly by disrupting the bacterial membrane, which is a fast and non-specific mechanism. 4. 4. Amphiphilic Peptide Interactions with Complex Biological Membranes Effect of peptide properties on antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Shalini Singh; Uppsala universitet.; [2016]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LPS; Antimicrobial; Peptide; Inflammation; Infections; Liposome; Binding; PEG; Farmaceutisk fysikalisk kemi; Pharmaceutical Physical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : With increasing problem of resistance development in bacteria against conventional antibiotics, as well as problems associated with diseases either triggered or enhanced by infection, there is an urgent need to identify new types of effective therapeutics for the treatment of infectious diseases and its consequences. Antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory peptides have attracted considerable interest as potential new antibiotics in this context. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Functional dualism of antimicrobial host defence peptides

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Åse Björstad; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2009]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antimicrobial; apoptosis; cathelicidin; host defence peptide; interleukin 8; LL-37; permeabilisation;

    Sammanfattning : Antimicrobial host defence peptides are central to innate immunity and many possess direct antimicrobial actions on bacteria as well as indirect immunomodulatory functions on human leukocytes. Different variants of the bifunctional Helicobacter pylori peptide, Hp(2-20), were synthesised and inhibition zone assays and chemiluminescence systems were employed for determination of direct antimicrobial action and superoxide release (immunomodulatory) from human neutrophils, respectively.
