11. Conformationally Constrained Oligonucleotides for RNA Targeting
Sammanfattning : A short oligonucleotide sequence as in a single-stranded antisense oligo nucleotides (AON) or in double-stranded small interfering RNAs (siRNA) can modulate the gene expression by targeting against the cellular mRNA, which can be potentially exploited for therapeutic purposes in the treatment of different diseases. In order to improve the efficacy of oligonucleotide-based drugs, the problem of target affinity, nuclease stability and delivery needs to be addressed. LÄS MER
12. Development and synthesis of oligonucleotide building blocks and conjugates for therapeutic applications
Sammanfattning : The research and development of oligonucleotide therapeutics has been a topic of great importance in life sciences. The potential to treat rare genetic diseases can be demonstrated simply by highlighting the increasing amount of approved oligonucleotide-based drugs. LÄS MER
13. Transition metal carbide nanocomposite and amorphous thin films
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores thin films of binary and ternary transition metal carbides, in the Nb-C, Ti-Si-C, Nb-Si-C, Zr-Si-C, and Nb-Ge-C systems. The electrical and mechanical properties of these systems are affected by their structure and here both nanocomposite and amorphous thin films are thus investigated. LÄS MER
14. Studies of gene fusions and copy number alterations in salivary and adnexal neoplasms
Sammanfattning : Cancer is a genetic disease caused by the accumulation of genetic changes such as mutations and chromosomal rearrangements. An increasing number of genetic studies of both hematological and solid neoplasms have shown that recurrent chromosome translocations often result in fusion oncogenes. LÄS MER
15. Analysis of Synchronous machine dynamics using a novel equivalent circuit model
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates simulation of synchronous machines using a novel Magnetic Equivalent Circuit (MEC) model. The proposed model offers sufficient detail richness for design calculations, while still keeping the simulation time acceptably short. Different modeling methods and circuit alternatives are considered. LÄS MER
