1. Preclinical tumor-immune modeling : For the identification of immunomodulatory drugs
Sammanfattning : For a long time, the field of cancer research was dominated by a tumor cell-centric view. That, however, changed once it became recognized that medical cancer treatment is largely influenced by the combined effect exerted on both cancer and immune cells. LÄS MER
2. Kinematics and Internal Deformation of Granular Slopes
Sammanfattning : Flow-like mass movement is the most destructive landslide and causes loss of lives and substantial property damage throughout the world every year. This thesis focuses on the spatial and temporal changes of the mass movement in terms of velocity and displacement within the failure mass, and the spatial and temporal distribution of the three dimensional internal deformation of the granular slopes using discrete element method, physical experiments, and natural landslides. 3. Physiology of Saccharomyces cerevisiae Producing Recombinant Insulin in Continuous Culture
Sammanfattning : The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae has widely been used as a host for the production of heterologous proteins. High-level production of heterologous proteins is likely to impose a metabolic burden on the host cell and can thus affect various aspects of cellular physiology. LÄS MER
4. Biomechanical analyses of flywheel resistance exercise : From a space- and ground-based perspective
Sammanfattning : Astronauts suffer degradation of postural muscles and weight-bearing bones during long-duration spaceflight. Resistance exercise is used as a primary countermeasure against these degradations. LÄS MER
5. Tectonic History and Present-Day Deformation in the Zagros Fold-Thrust Belt
Sammanfattning : This thesis uses various approaches such as observation of satellite images, field investigations, analogue modeling and GPS measurements to constrain deformation of the basement and sedimentary cover of the Zagros fold-thrust belt in time and space.Focal mechanism solutions of most earthquakes indicate that deformation in the Zagros basement is due to shortening and thickening through numerous thrust faults.
