21. Diffusive interactions play an important role in protein stability and mobility : Investigations of the intracellular milieu using in-cell NMR
Sammanfattning : Proteins are crucial for all cellular life. Every signal received by a cell, and every response to it, is mediated by proteins. Inside cells, these proteins diffusively sample each other’s surfaces, as they travel through the cytoplasm in search of their specific interaction partners. LÄS MER
22. Characterization of folding dynamics and accelerated electron transfer in proteins
Sammanfattning : The research presented in this thesis is divided in two: The first part is a study of the intracellular protein human copper zinc superoxide dismutase which has been associated with the fatale disease Amyotrophic lateral Selerosis (ALS). ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease of motor neurons, and in the cases where the disease is inheriled (fALS), roughly 15% is caused by mutations in human copper·zinc superoxide dismutase (CuZnSOD). 23. Protein aggregation: Computational modeling and Monte Carlo algorithm development
Sammanfattning : Although organisms have evolved sophisticated cellular mechanisms for regulating their various protein networks, proteins sometimes start to clump together in an uncontrolled way. The aggregation of proteins has been associated with a range of serious diseases. LÄS MER
24. Analysis of inherited and somatic variants to decipher canine complex traits
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents several investigations of the dog as a model for complex diseases, focusing on cancers and the effect of genetic risk factors on clinical presentation. In Papers I and II, we performed genome-wide association studies (GWAS) to identify germline risk factors predisposing US golden retrievers to hemangiosarcoma (HSA) and B-cell lymphoma (BLSA). 25. Protein stability and mobility in live cells : Revelation of the intracellular diffusive interaction organization mechanisms
Sammanfattning : Biochemical processes inside living cells take place in a confined and highly crowded environment. As such, macromolecular crowding, one of the most important physicochemical properties of cytoplasm, is an essential element of cell physiology. LÄS MER
