  1. 16. Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Biomimetic Carbohydrate Materials

    Författare :Qiong Zhang; Hans Ågren; Robert J. Woods; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; molecular dynamics simulation; carbohydrate; cellulose; xyloglucan; cyclodextrin; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis honors contemporary molecular dynamics simulation methodologies which provide powerful means to predict data, interpret observations and widen our understanding of the dynamics, structures and interactions of carbohydrate systems. With this as starting point my thesis work embarked on several cutting edge problems summarized as follows. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Miniaturized, Membrane-Based and Environmentally Green Sample Preparation Systems: Applications for Biological and Environmental Aqueous Samples

    Författare :Thaer Barri; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Free concentration; Exhustive extraction; Microporous membrane liquid-liqid extraction; Miniaturization; Supported liquid membrane extraction; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Sammanfattning : Contemporary advancements in miniaturization of analytical systems have advantageously fostered development, automation, and hyphenation of a variety of sample preparation techniques. Among several downscaled extraction designs, porous synthetic polymeric membranes (such as flat sheet (FS) or hollow fiber (HF)) have been utilized for membrane-based extraction, separating two aqueous phases (as in supported liquid membrane (SLM) extraction or one aqueous phase and another organic phase (as in microporous membrane liquid-liquid extraction (MMLLE)). 3. 18. Geochemical Landscape Analysis for the Risk Assessment of Acid Mine Drainage in a Wetland Environment

    Författare :Andrea Szucs; Ulf Qvarfort; Richard Wanty; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Earth sciences; acid mine drainage; environmental geochemistry; landscape; risk assessment; stream; wetland; Geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Attenuation of acid mine drainage (AMD) metals originating from abandoned mines and waste rock dumps is investigated in this thesis at Slättberg in central Sweden, where acid mine leachate has been discharging for over 70 years into the receiving wetland stream and mire. Risk assessment of AMD and related polluted lands requires a holistic approach that is able to study the complexity of pollution emissions and impacted landscapes. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Pharmaceuticals – improved removal from municipal wastewater and their occurrence in the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Berndt Björlenius; Gen Larsson; Antonius J. A. van Maris; Hallvard Ødegaard; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Advanced wastewater treatment; WWTP; pilot plant; pharmaceutical residues; removal of pharmaceuticals; activated carbon; ozonation; nanofiltration; biomarker; Baltic Sea; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Sammanfattning : Pharmaceutical residues are found in the environment due to extensive use in human and veterinary medicine. The active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) have a potential impact in non-target organisms. Municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are not designed to remove APIs. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Effect of Uncertainty of Rock Properties on Radionuclide Transport by Groundwater : Implications for Performance Assessments of the Repository of Spent Nuclear Fuel in Heterogeneous Bedrock

    Författare :Shulan Xu; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Radionuclide migration; heterogeneous rock property; stochastic process spectral analysis; temporal moments; auto-covariance functions; sorption kinetics; performance assessment; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Sedimentology; sedimentologi;

    Sammanfattning : The overall objective of the current study is to develop a quantitative understanding of the effects of spatial variability in physical and geochemical properties of crystalline rock on the migration of radionuclides along a single fracture in bedrock. A stochastic model was developed to describe the transport of solutes in fractured rock. LÄS MER
