1. Chitosan biopolymer as an adsorbent for drinking water treatment : Investigation on Arsenic and Uranium
Sammanfattning : In many countries over the world (including Sweden), metal toxicity in freshwater resources causes a severe drinking water quality problem and poses a threat to the environment and human health. Among the different toxic metals in the water resources of Sweden, arsenic and uranium are the biggest threats to health. LÄS MER
2. The mobility of natural uranium at Forsmark, Sweden, through geologic time
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the response of uranium minerals and poorly crystalline phases to changes in geochemical conditions through geological time has been assessed in order to understand the mobility of natural uranium in the fracture network of a proposed site for a spent nuclear fuel repository in Forsmark, Sweden. Identification and characterization of solid phase uranium have been performed through electron microprobe analysis and optical petrography (Article I). LÄS MER
3. Surface Complexation Studies in An (Th, U(IV), Pu(VI)) Systems
Sammanfattning : Two-phase systems containing an electrolyte solution and a suspended solid were studied. The common denominator for the three systems examined in this work is that they contain actinides (elements of atomic numbers between 89 and 103) in either the solid phase or as a sorbate. Experiments were done on simple oxides. LÄS MER
4. Advances in Stellar Astrophysics from Laboratory Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : Investigation of astrophysical plasmas, such as stellar atmospheres, require both knowledge of atomic structure and data. We present laboratory instruments, techniques and tools for acquisition of the data required to derive important atomic parameters such as, wavelengths, oscillator strengths and line profiles. 5. Laboratory and stellar spectroscopy of the complex ions Fe+, Mo+, Th+ and U+
Sammanfattning : The new generation of high resolution astronomical instruments such as the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) or the Very Large Telescope (VLT) has renewed the demand for accurate atomic parameters like wavelengths, oscillator strengths and line profiles accompanied by reliable uncertainty estimates. Fourier transform spectroscopy has proven to be a powerful tool when measuring these parameters. LÄS MER
