  1. 1. Theoretical modelling of tumour oxygenation and influences on treatment outcome

    Författare :Iuliana Toma-Dasu; Mikael Karlsson; Svensson Hans; J F Fowler; Borivoj Vojnovic; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiation sciences; Computer simulation; Electrode; Polarographic measurements; Tumour oxygenation; Hypoxia; Strålningsvetenskap; Radiation biology; Strålningsbiologi; radiofysik; radiation physics;

    Sammanfattning : One of the main problems in curing cancer resides in the different microenvironment existing in tumours compared to the normal tissues. The mechanisms of failure are different for radiotherapy and chemotherapy, but they all relate to the poor blood supply known to exist in tumours. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Tumour vasculature, oxygenation and radiosensitivity - a numerical modelling study

    Författare :Jakob Heydorn Lagerlöf; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Angiogenesis; Dosimetry; Hypoxia; Modelling; Radionuclide therapy; Radiotherapy; Tumour Control Probability;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to investigate theoretically how parameters such as vessel density, blood oxygenation, blood velocity, spatial oxygen variation along vessels, tissue oxygen consumption and their distributions in uence the radiosensitivity of tumours. Numerical calculations are made in Matlab using voxel-based models. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The virtual tumour - in silico modelling of tumour vasculature, oxygenation and treatment outcome

    Författare :Filippo Schiavo; Iuliana Toma-Daşu; Emely Kjellsson Lindblom; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Medical Radiation Physics; medicinsk strålningsfysik;

    Sammanfattning : Poor tumour oxygenation, namely hypoxia, is one of the major challenges that has been recognised in radiotherapy, yet it is not being accounted for in standard treatments. Hypoxia, resulting from a heterogeneous distribution of vessels (chronic hypoxia) or of a loss in vascular perfusion (acute hypoxia), affects all kinds of solid tumours to different extents. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Methodological Aspects of Clinical fMRI - Reliability Assessment and Development of Data Analysis Strategies

    Författare :Peter Mannfolk; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Blood oxygenation level dependent fMRI Field map General linear model Locally linear embedding Resting-state;

    Sammanfattning : Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is a non-invasive technique used for the investigation of brain function, which has found numerous applications within basic neuroscience. The introduction of fMRI as a clinical tool for presurgical mapping of pertinent cortical regions in patients with tumour or epilepsy has facilitated neurosurgical planning, and most likely reduced the risk of severe postoperative deficits. 5. 5. Searching for the optimal radiotherapy treatment time, dose and fractionation - the role of hypoxia and reoxygenation : A modelling study

    Författare :Emely Lindblom; Iuliana Toma-Dasu; Ingmar Lax; Ludvig Paul Muren; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hypoxia; Reoxygenation; SBRT; Fractionation; Medical Radiation Physics; medicinsk strålningsfysik;

    Sammanfattning : The search for the optimal choice of treatment time, dose and fractionation regimen is one of the major challenges in radiation therapy. Several aspects of the radiation response of tumours and normal tissues give different indications of how the parameters defining a fractionation schedule should be altered relative to each other which often results in contradictory conclusions.
