16. Cycle paths’ degradation processes and surface condition assessment
Sammanfattning : A shift in modal share from car driving to cycling has many benefits, both from individual- and societal perspectives, e.g., better health from an increase in physical activity, lower levels of pollution and congestion. However, there are also some potential problems with such a shift. LÄS MER
17. Metastable Alumina from Theory: Bulk, Surface, and Growth of κ-Al2O3
Sammanfattning : Aluminas are materials of high technological importance that show a fascinating structural flexibility, with a large amount of different phases (alpha, gamma, eta, delta, kappa, chi, ...) and phase transitions at relatively high temperatures. LÄS MER
18. Formation stability and electronic structure of surfaces and interfaces from first principles
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with two closely interwoven aspects of first-principle(density functional theory) materials modeling:(1)~prediction of atomic structure & chemical composition, and (2)~prediction of electronic properties. In the first part, we focus on atomic structure (AS) and chemical composition (CC) of surface and interface systems. 19. Structure, Bonding and Chemistry of Water and Hydroxyl on Transition Metal Surfaces
Sammanfattning : The structure, bonding and chemistry of water and hydroxyl on metal surfaces are presented. Synchrotron based x-ray photoelectron- and x-ray absorption spectroscopy along with density functional theory calculations mainly form the basis of the results. LÄS MER
20. A Surface Phase Model of the Alveolar Lining: Ultrastructural Analysis and in vivo Applications
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the relation between lung surfactant structure and functional properties have been studied. Experimental results show that the alveolar surface is formed by a coherent surface phase with a structure equal to tubular myelin. The properties of this phase may explain certain unresolved issues in lung physiology, e.g. LÄS MER
