  1. 1. Biomimetic surfaces : Preparation, characterization and application

    Författare :Annika Borgh; Bo Liedberg; Fredrik Höök; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Self-assembled monolayers; biomimetic surfaces; phosphates; antifreeze; surface spectroscopy; Molecular physics; Molekylfysik;

    Sammanfattning : I denna avhandling beskrivs tillverkning, karaktärisering och tillämpning av ett antal biomimetiska ytor. Biomimetik är att härma naturen och grundtanken är att titta på hur naturen löst liknande problemställningar. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Surfactants at non-polar surfaces

    Författare :Marcus Persson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :nonionic surfactants; SDS; surface tension; wetting; surface force; disjoining pressure isotherm; adhesion;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis work was to investigate theadsorption of surfactants to different nonpolar interfaces.Particularly, the effects of the polar group and the nature ofthe hydrophobic interface were elucidated. The interfacialbehavior of the liquid-vapor interface was investigated bymeans of surface tension measurements. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Metastable Alumina from Theory: Bulk, Surface, and Growth of κ-Al2O3

    Författare :Carlo Ruberto; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; density-functional theory; structure; cutting tools; plane waves; first principles; stability; one-dimensional electron gas; DFT; Tasker s rules; ionic crystals; polar surfaces; adsorption; pseudopotentials; Pauling s rules; bonding; surface states; TiC; ceramic materials;

    Sammanfattning : Aluminas are materials of high technological importance that show a fascinating structural flexibility, with a large amount of different phases (alpha, gamma, eta, delta, kappa, chi, ...) and phase transitions at relatively high temperatures. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Polar molecules in crystalline and surface environments : From first principles

    Författare :Maria Alfredsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi; Inorganic Chemistry; oorganisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : With the knowledge of the composition and structure of a chemical system, be it a molecule, a two-dimensional surface or a three-dimensional crystal, it is now possible to predict the specific properties of the compound under consideration via computational studies. Molecular and periodic Hartree-Fock and DFT calculations have been used as a tool to study polar molecules and how their properties respond to the molecular environment in a crystal or on an ionic surface. Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis work was to gain understanding of the interactions between talc mineral and surfaces, liquids and chemicals relevant for industrial applications, such as pulp and paper. Talc is used in the pulp and paper industry as a filler pigment, in control of pitch (lipophilic extractives) deposits and as a coating pigment. LÄS MER
