21. Cardiac morphology and dynamics in Swedish elite orienteers : Evaluation of the right and left ventricle by two-dimensional and doppler echocardiography
Sammanfattning : Background. Between 1979 and 1992, 16 (15 males and 1 female) sudden unexpected cardiac deaths(SUCD) were reported in Swedish orienteers. Compared with previous reports in young athletes there was a 10- to 100-fold increase in the sudden death rate in young male elite orienteers during this period. The mean age was 25 years (range 18-32 years). LÄS MER
22. Placement of automated external defibrillators and logistics to facilitate early defibrillation in sudden cardiac arrest
Sammanfattning : Background and aim: Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is a leading cause of death in many western countries. Much effort is put in to measures to improve survival. Early cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) significantly increase the chance of survival. LÄS MER
23. Mitochondrial permeability transition following calcium overload. - Its role in neuronal cell death and potential as a pharmacological target
Sammanfattning : There is currently no clinically available drug with neuroprotective properties to limit the evolving cell death following e.g. stroke or traumatic brain injury. The mitochondrial permeability transition (mPT) is a potential pathological mechanism causing cell death in the CNS. LÄS MER
24. Maintaining quality of life after prostate cancer diagnosis

Sudden, unwelcome and repetitive thoughts about a traumatic event – intrusive thoughts – constitute one factor of post-traumatic stress disorder. LÄS MER
25. Perinatal nicotine exposure. Effects on the defense against hypoxia in lambs
Sammanfattning : The aim of the present study was to evaluate whether perinatal nicotine exposure could impair cardiorespiratory defense mechanisms to hypoxia. The rationale for this approach is that exposure to tobacco smoke, particularly before birth, is a risk factor for the sudden infant death syndrome as well as for obstructive airway disease in childhood.
