  1. 11. Of mice and men : SOD1 associated human amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and transgenic mouse models

    Författare :Karin Sixtensdotter Graffmo; Thomas Brännström; Stefan Marklund; Elisabeth Englund; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; aggregates; ALS; amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; inclusions; misfolded; vacuolisation; SOD1; transgenic; Pathology; Patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, ALS, is a progressive fatal neurodegenerative disorder affecting motor neurones in motor cortex, brain stem and spinal cord. This inevitably leads to paralysis, respiratory failure and death. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Superoxide dismutase 1 and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

    Författare :P. Andreas Jonsson; Stefan L. Marklund; David R. Borchelt; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; aggregates; ALS; amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; cerebrospinal fluid; disulfide-reduced; inclusions; misfolded; protective factor; SOD1; transgenic; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease affecting motor neurons in the spinal cord, brain stem and motor cortex, leading to paralysis, respiratory failure and death. In about 5% of ALS cases, the disease is associated with mutations in the CuZn-superoxide dismutase (hSOD1) gene. LÄS MER

  3. 13. SOD1 misfolding and aggregation in ALS : in the light of conformation-specific antibodies

    Författare :Manuela Lehmann; Jonathan D. Gilthorpe; Stefan L. Marklund; Thomas Brännström; Ulrika Nordström; Elizabeth Fisher; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ALS; antibodies; SOD1; disordered SOD1; patient-derived models; low oxygen tension; Immunotherapy;

    Sammanfattning : Mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene are linked to the progressive neurodegenerative disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). ALS-associated mutations affect the stability of the SOD1 protein and promote its unfolding. As a consequence, disordered SOD1 species can misfold and accumulate into insoluble aggregates. LÄS MER

  4. 14. QTL Analysis in the Pig : From the Identification of Quantitative Trait Loci to the Understanding of Molecular Mechanisms

    Författare :Ellen Markljung; Leif Andersson; Göran Andersson; Göran Hjälm; Stefan Marklund; Holger Luthman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Domestic pigs have become very different form the wild ancestors they originate from. Selection for muscle growth and meat quality has made the pig a good model for genetic studies of muscle development.The first part of this thesis presents a genome-wide scan for quantitative trait loci (QTL) in a cross between Landrace and Hampshire pigs. 5. 15. Superoxide dismutase 1 and cataract

    Författare :Eva Olofsson; Anders Behndig; Stefan Marklund; Marjorie Lou; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cataract; diabetes mellitus; nitric oxide; superoxide; superoxide dismutase; SOD1 null mice; Ophtalmiatrics; Oftalmiatrik; oftalmiatrik; Ophtalmology;

    Sammanfattning : Light and oxygen generate harmful reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the lens, causing biochemical changes that gradually disarrange the lens fibres resulting in light scattering and loss of transparency. In the healthy eye, this chronic exposure to oxidative stress may lead to age-related cataract. LÄS MER
