  1. 1. Bothnia dystrophy, a clinical, genetical and electrophysiological study

    Författare :Marie Burstedt; Ola Sandgren; Ola Textorius; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ophtalmology; retinal pigment epithelium; retinitis pigmentosa; neural retina; electroretinogram; cellular retinaldehyde-binding protein; dark adaptometry; retinal degeneration; Oftalmiatrik; Ophtalmology; Oftalmologi; Ophtalmology; oftalmiatrik;

    Sammanfattning : A high frequency of retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is found in Northern Sweden. In an inventory of autosomal recessive RP patients in Västerbotten County, a great number of cases with a unique phenotype was noticed, denoted Bothnia Dystrophy (BD). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Intraocular pressure : clinical aspects and new measurement methods

    Författare :Gauti Jóhannesson; Christina Lindén; Per Hallberg; Anders Eklund; Boel Bengtsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Intraocular pressure; glaucoma; tonometry; ISO; LASEK; CCT; curvature; Ophtalmiatrics; Oftalmiatrik; Ophtalmology; oftalmiatrik;

    Sammanfattning : Intraocular pressure (IOP) measurement is a routine procedure and a fundament in glaucoma care. Elevated IOP is the main risk factor for glaucoma, and to date, reduction of IOP is the only possible treatment. In a retrospective clinical material, the prevalence of open angle glaucoma was estimated on the west coast of Iceland. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Safety and efficacy of intracameral mydriatics in cataract surgery

    Författare :Björn Lundberg; Anders Behndig; Charlotta Zetterström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Ophtalmology; intracameral; mydriatics; pupil; cataract; phacoemulsification; lidocaine; phenylephrine; cyclopentolate; epinephrine; endothelial cell loss; Oftalmiatrik; oftalmiatrik; Ophtalmology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: In order to perform cataract surgery, adequate dilatation of the pupil is essential. This is traditionally achieved by preoperative topical mydriatic eye-drops, commonly cyclopentolate and phenylephrine. This routine has several disadvantages. First, the slow penetration through the cornea delays the onset of mydriasis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Long-term outcome after cataract surgery : a longitudinal study

    Författare :Britta Lundqvist; Eva Mönestam; Ulf Stenevi; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cataract; cataract surgery outcome; longitudinal study; subjective visual acuity; Ophtalmiatrics; Oftalmiatrik; Ophtalmology; oftalmiatrik;

    Sammanfattning : Background Cataract surgery is the most common surgical procedure carried out in the developed world and surgery volumes have increased considerably during the last decades. Various aspects of the surgical procedure, including surgical incision size and intraocular lens materials, have changed substantially, improving the safety and the quality of the outcome. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Superoxide dismutase 1 and cataract

    Författare :Eva Olofsson; Anders Behndig; Stefan Marklund; Marjorie Lou; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cataract; diabetes mellitus; nitric oxide; superoxide; superoxide dismutase; SOD1 null mice; Ophtalmiatrics; Oftalmiatrik; oftalmiatrik; Ophtalmology;

    Sammanfattning : Light and oxygen generate harmful reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the lens, causing biochemical changes that gradually disarrange the lens fibres resulting in light scattering and loss of transparency. In the healthy eye, this chronic exposure to oxidative stress may lead to age-related cataract. LÄS MER
