  1. 31. Stress responses of Arabidopsis plants with a varying level of non-photochemical quenching

    Författare :Hanna Johansson Jänkänpää; Stefan Jansson; Barbara Demmig-Adams; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis; NPQ; PsbS; photosynthesis; field experiment; metabolomics; Physiological Botany; fysiologisk botanik; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : When light energy input exceeds the capacity for photosynthesis the plant need to dissipate the excess energy and this is done through non-photo-chemical quenching (NPQ). Photochemical quenching (photosynthesis), NPQ and fluorescence are three alternative faiths of excited chlorophylls. PsbS associates to photosystem II and is involved in NPQ. LÄS MER

  2. 32. Gas Exchange in the Normal Lung : Experimental studies on the effects of positive end-expiratory pressure and body position

    Författare :Mats J. Johansson; Sten Walther; Gunnar Nicolaysen; John-Peder Escobar Kvitting; Stefan Lundin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND: The principal function of the lung is gas exchange requiring adequate ventilation and perfusion at the level of the alveoli. The efficiency of gas exchange is depending on the distributions of regional ventilation (V) and pulmonary blood flow (Q) and their correlation. LÄS MER

  3. 33. Welfare state attitudes in context : local contexts and attitude formation in Sweden

    Författare :Ingemar Johansson Sevä; Stefan Svallfors; Jonas Edlund; Joakim Palme; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Welfare state; attitudes; local context; municipalities; multilevel analysis; Sweden; Sociology; Sociologi; sociologi; Sociology;

    Sammanfattning : Welfare state attitudes are often studied from the perspective of the individual's characteristics and/or national or regime-type contexts. This thesis instead seeks explanations for individuals' varying attitudes towards the welfare state at the level of local contexts (municipalities). LÄS MER

  4. 34. Analytical and numerical approaches to estimate peak shear strength of rock joints

    Författare :Francisco Ríos Bayona; Stefan Larsson; Fredrik Johansson; Diego Mas Ivars; José Muralha; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rock joint; Shear strength; Failure criterion; Numerical shear tests; Bergsprickor; Skjuvhållfasthet; Brottkriterium; Numeriska skjuvförsök; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : In Sweden, there exists a large number of dams. Many of them are founded on rock masses normally affected by the presence of sub-horizontal rock fractures, which makes sliding along rock joints under the dam foundation one of the most critical failure mechanism. LÄS MER

  5. 35. Beyond the Years : Exploring the role of sensory functions and cognitive abilities in shaping the patterns of old age disabilities and successful aging in an aging population in Sweden and Denmark: An epidemiological perspective of disability

    Författare :Andreea Badache; Elina Mäki-Torkko; Stefan Fors; Stephen Widén; Boo Johansson; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; older adults; successful aging; Sweden; Denmark; sensory functions; prevalence; longitudinal epidemiology; ADL; IADL; cognition;

    Sammanfattning : AIMS: This research project aims to review the lay perspectives of older adults 75 and above regarding successful aging, as well as estimate the prevalence of sensory difficulties by different subgroups, explore the role of cognition and sensory function in explaining decreasing disability trends over time in Sweden and Denmark and, lastly, longitudinally examine the sensory-cognitive relation in older adults. METHODS: For Study I, a systematic review was conducted, while for Study II the prevalence of sensory functions was estimated. LÄS MER
