  1. 1. Phosphorus availability and microbial respiration across biomes : from plantation forest to tundra

    Författare :Camilla Esberg; Reiner Giesler; David A. Wardle; Bente J. Graae; Dan Binkley; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phosphorus availability; microbial bioassay; soil respiration; microbial growth rate; Hedley fractionation; soil sorption; weathered soils; boreal forest; subarctic and tundra;

    Sammanfattning : Phosphorus is the main limiting nutrient for plant growth in large areas of the world and the availability of phosphorus to plants and microbes can be strongly affected by soil properties. Even though the phosphorus cycle has been studied extensively, much remains unknown about the key processes governing phosphorus availability in different environments. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Soil salinity as a driver of microbial community structure and functioning

    Författare :Kristin Rath; MEMEG; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Soil salinization; Soil Microbiology; soil microbial community; Bacteria; Aerobic; Fungi; Drying-rewetting; Microbial growth; Microbial biomass; Soil respiration; salinity tolerance; Saline soils; Salinity gradient;

    Sammanfattning : Soil salinization is a pressing agricultural problem in many areas of the world, particularly in areas heavily reliant on irrigation agriculture. While the negative effects of salinity on crop plants have been widely studied, its effects on soil microorganisms have received less attention, and the impact of soil salinity on both microbial community structure and functioning is not well understood. 3. 3. Achieving carbon isotope mass balance in northern forest soils, soil respiration and fungi

    Författare :Björn Boström; Alf Ekblad; Phil Ineson; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 13C; Carbon cycle; Ectomycorrhizal fungi; Forest soil; Microbial respiration; Soil respiration; Stable isotopes; Biology; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Northern forests contain a large part of the global terrestrial carbon pool and it is unclear whether they will be sinks or sources for atmospheric carbon if the climate warms as predicted. Stable isotope techniques provide unique tools to study the carbon cycle at different scales but the interpretation of the isotope data is impaired by our inability to close the carbon isotope mass balance of ecosystems. 4. 4. Tillage effects on soil respiration in Swedish arable soils

    Författare :Veera Kainiemi; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The amount of carbon (C) present in soil is greater than the sum of C present in terrestrial vegetation and the atmosphere combined. Small changes in soils can therefore affect atmospheric CO₂ levels and ultimately the global climate. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Explaining temporal variations in soil respiration rates and delta13C in coniferous forest ecosystems

    Författare :Daniel Comstedt; Alf Ekblad; Rolf Siegwolf; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Autotrophic; Boreal forest; Elevated CO2; 13C; Natural abundance of stable isotopes; Picea abies; PLS; Root respiration; Soil respiration; Biology; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Soils of Northern Hemisphere forests contain a large part of the global terrestrial carbon (C) pool. Even small changes in this pool can have large impact on atmospheric [CO2] and the global climate. LÄS MER
