  1. 1. Translational regulation of genes in salmonella typhimurium by vitamin B12

    Författare :Solveig Ravnum; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Transational Control; Salmonella typhimurium; Vitamin B12; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I have studied the mechanism by which vitamin B12 regulates the expression of the cob operon and the btuB gene in Salmonella typhimurium. The cob operon encodes most of the 25 genes required for the de novo synthesis of vitamin B12, and the butB gene encodes the outer membrane protein needed for transport of exogenous vitamin B12 into the cell. 4. 4. Characterization of c-di-GMP signaling in Salmonella typhimurium

    Författare :Roger Simm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Signal transduction via cyclic nucleotides is a general mechanism utilized by cells from all kingdoms of life. Identification of cyclic diguanosine monophosphate (c-di-GMP) as an allosteric activator of the cellulose synthase in Gluconacetobacter xylinus 20 years ago, paved the way for the discovery of a novel general signalling system which is unique to bacteria. 5. 5. Mechanisms and Biological Costs of Bacterial Resistance to Antimicrobial Peptides

    Författare :Hava Lofton Tomenius; Dan I Andersson; Ørjan Samuelsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antimicrobial peptides; antibiotic resistance; fitness cost; Salmonella Typhimurium; Staphylococcus aureus; bile; serum; pH response; growth rate; mice; phoP; pmrB; waaY; LPS; LL-37; defensins; membrane potential; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : The global increasing problem of antibiotic resistance necessarily drives the pursuit and discovery of new antimicrobial agents. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) initially seemed like promising new drug candidates. Already members of the innate immune system, it was assumed that they would be bioactive and non-toxic. LÄS MER
