11. Regulatory mechanisms controlling T cell activity
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on work studying the immunoregulatory mechanisms that govern the balance between activation and inactivation of T lymphocytes. Most of the work has been carried out in an experimental system using a T cell receptor (TCR-Vb3) transgenic mouse strain to obtain a homogenous T-cell population and utilizing the properties of bacterial superantigens to induce T cell responses and unresponsiveness in vivo. 12. Studies on the function of CD4CD25 regulatory T cells: An in vitro approach
Sammanfattning : Immunological self-tolerance is a state of the whole organism where deleterious responses are either avoided or regulated. Breaking of immunological tolerance will lead to autoimmune disease or chronic inflammatory conditions. LÄS MER
13. Investigating novel roles of topoisomerase regulatory interactions in transcription
Sammanfattning : Drugs targeting DNA Topoisomerases (TOPs, TOP1 and TOP2) are mainstays of anti-cancer therapy. While they have proven effective, the toxicity of current TOP drugs caused by DNA damage-induced apoptosis of non-cancer cells, limits their use in the clinic. LÄS MER
14. Regulatory Functions of Protein Phosphorylation in Plant Photosynthetic Membranes
Sammanfattning : Oxygenic photosynthesis is the process in plants, algae and cyanobacteria which converts light energy from the sun into carbohydrates and at the same time produces oxygen from water. Both carbohydrates and oxygen are essential to sustain life on earth. LÄS MER
15. The EU Services Directive – Law or Simply Policy?
Sammanfattning : The balance between the regulatory autonomy of the Member State of the European Union and the requirements of harmonisation as set out in the EU Services Directive (2006/123/EC) is the subject of this work. The overall effects of the free movement of services on national regulatory autonomy as prescribed by the Services Directive is to a great degree dependent upon whether this directive is perceived of as a traditional directive or instead, as a governance instrument to control and steer the actions of the Member States.
