  1. 1. Variation and comparison of cytochromes P450 in human liver and blood : with special emphasis on gene expression

    Författare :Niklas Finnström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cytochrome P450; CY1A2; CYP1B1; CYP2E1; CYP3A4; gene expression; RTPCR; liver; blood; human; variation.;

    Sammanfattning : The liver is the major drug and xenobiotic metabolising organ, and is the target of many adverse reactions. The main hepatic metabolic enzymes belong to the mono oxygenase enzyme family of cytochromes P450 (CYP). Direct studies of these enzymes in small liver biopsy samples require ultrasensitive methodology. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Opioid ligands and receptors of the joint

    Författare :Jonas Bergström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Opioid peptides; enkephalin; opioid receptors; joint; primary afferents; synovial lining cells; vascular smooth muscle; arthritis; osteoarthrosis; immunohistochemistry; radioimmunoassay; RTPCR; binding assay;

    Sammanfattning : The aim was to explore the occurrence of an opioid system in joints. Thus, joint tissues from rats with and without arthritis and also from patients with knee osteoarthrosis were investigated by EM, immunohistochemistry, RIA, HPLC, receptor binding assay and RT-PCR. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Molecular and functional studies on human embryo implantation : targets for infertility and fertility regulation

    Författare :Nageswara Rao Boggavarapu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: An estimated one in four couples globally suffers from infertility or fertility related issues and rate of global infertility is about 10-15%. Despite the best optimization of assisted reproductive technique the pregnancy rate is not more than 30%. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Genomic clues to secondary injury mechanisms in brain trauma

    Författare :Christina von Gertten; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :traumatic brain injury; cerebral cortical contusion; weight-drop model; depolarisation; gene expression; nestin; MMP-9; TIMP-1; osteopontin; CD44; hippocalcin; NMDA receptor; microarray; rat;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a heterogenous disease that can lead to persistent disability or death. The immediate mechanical disruption of brain tissue is followed by a phase of secondary brain injury. During this phase TBI challenges clinical interventions due to its complexity. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The Importance of Cell-Mediated Immunity for the Development of Type 1 Diabetes

    Författare :Maria G. E. Karlsson; Stellan Sandler; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Background Type I (insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus is an autoimmune disease characterised by infiltration of T-lymphocytes in the islets of Langerhans. In particular, activated Th1-like lymphocytes secreting IFN-γ are suggested to contribute to the inflammatory process and the destruction of ß-cells, whereas Th2-like cells producing IL-4 might even be protective.
