1. Monoaminergic modulation in spinal reflex pathways from group I afferents
Sammanfattning : Serotonin and noradrenaline are known to play an important part in modulation of spinal neuronal networks. Group I muscle afferents mediate information on dynamic changes of muscle length and tension, and modulation of actions from these afferents could be of importance for the execution of movements. 2. Neuronal tracers for fine caliber spinal primary afferents and their response to peripheral nerve injury
Sammanfattning : The isolectin B4 from Griffonia simplicifolia I (B4) and soybean agglutinin from the plant Glycine max (SBA), have been shown to bind to rat small-diameter dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons, and to fibers and presumed terminals in laminae I-II of the spinal cord dorsal horn. In the present thesis, these lectins and/or their horseradish peroxidase (HRP) conjugates, have been investigated in the rat with regard to their usefulness as selective neuronal markers of and axonally transported tracers for somatic and/or visceral spinal primary afferents with fine caliber, including unmyelinated, axons. 3. Classification of muscle stretch receptor afferents in humans
Sammanfattning : The response patterns of human stretch receptors in the finger extensor muscles of the forearm were studied using the microneurography technique. Single-unit recordings were obtained from one-hundred and twenty-four afferents. LÄS MER
4. Discharges in human muscle afferents during manual tasks
Sammanfattning : Muscle spindles are complex sensory organs that have been strongly implicated in the control and perception of movements. Human muscle spindles in relaxed muscles behave as stretch receptors, responding to the length and velocity of their parent muscles. LÄS MER
5. Hedonic, neural, and autonomic responses to prolonged gentle touch
Sammanfattning : Physical contact among individuals, such as caressing and cuddling, is connoted by a strong emotional value, and is usually perceived as a pleasant and rewarding experience. C tactile (CT) afferents are a class of fibres that are specific channels for detecting touch at a caress-like veloc-ity (between 1 and 10 cm/s). LÄS MER
