11. On-line Electrochemistry Electrospray Ionisation Mass Spectrometry : Method Development and Applications
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with studies of on-line electrochemistry electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (EC/ESI-MS). It is shown that the use of EC/ESI-MS demands optimal coupling characteristics. Pre-concentration and desalting, due to matrix exchange, were demonstrated for the model substance 1-hexanethiol in an EC/ESI-MS setup. LÄS MER
12. Development of Methods for Protein and Peptide Analysis Applied in Neuroscience Utilizing Mass Spectrometry
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the utilization of the matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI MS) and electrospray ionization (ESI) MS techniques for analysis of complex brain tissue samples. Direct molecular profiling of biological samples using MALDI MS is a powerful tool for identifying phenotypic markers. LÄS MER
13. Determination of benzene in urine and breath for monitoring of benzene exposure
Sammanfattning : The aim of this work was to develop and validate methods for determination of unmetabolized benzene in breath and urine. The methods were intended for the bio monitoring of benzene to assess both occupational and environmental exposure.A method was developed for the determination of benzene in end-exhaled air. LÄS MER
14. Exhaled markers of oxidative stress in the airways
Sammanfattning : Breath contains a number of different molecules, some of which may have potential use as markers for oxidative stress in the airways during chronic airway inflammation. The major objectives were to develop and validate methods for quantifying five potential exhaled markers of oxidative stress: malondialdehyde (MDA) and free 3-nitrotyrosine (3-NT) in exhaled breath condensate (EBC) and ethane, pentane and isoprene in exhaled air, and to test the applicability of the methods. 15. Determination of mercury chemical speciation in the presence of low molecular mass thiols and its importance for mercury methylation
Sammanfattning : Methylmercury (MeHg) is a neurotoxic compound that threatens the well-being of humans and wildlife. It is formed through the methylation of inorganic mercury (HgII) under suboxic/anoxic conditions in soils, sediment and waters. LÄS MER
