6. Heterogeneities in polymer gels: Effects on swelling and mechanical properties
Sammanfattning : Polymeric hydrogels is a class of scientifically interesting materials that are being extensively studied. They are found in numerous applications within; drug delivery, hygiene products, food industry, analytical chemistry, etc. In addition, polymeric hydrogels have promising future applications as; cell scaffolds, implants, sensors, etc. LÄS MER
7. Structure evolution of phase-separated EC/HPC films for controlled drug release
Sammanfattning : Porous phase-separated ethylcellulose/hydroxypropylcellulose (EC/HPC) films are used to control drug transport out of pharmaceutical pellets. The drug transport rate is determined by the structure of the porous films that are formed as the water-soluble HPC leaches out. LÄS MER
8. Crystallization of Parabens : Thermodynamics, Nucleation and Processing
Sammanfattning : In this work, the solubility of butyl paraben in 7 pure solvents and in 5 different ethanol-water mixtures has been determined from 1 ˚C to 50 ˚C. The solubility of ethyl paraben and propyl paraben in various solvents has been determined at 10 ˚C. LÄS MER
9. Drugs and polymers in dissolving solid dispersions : NMR imaging and spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : The number of poorly water-soluble drug substances in the pharmaceutical pipeline is increasing, and thereby also the need to design effective drug delivery systems providing high bioavailability. One favourable formulation approach is preparation of solid dispersions, where dispersing a poorly water-soluble drug in a water-soluble polymer matrix improves the dissolution behaviour and the bioavailability of the drug. 10. Phase Phenomena in Polymer Networks : Empirical Studies on the Influence of Hydrophobicity, Charge Density and Crosslinks on Macroion-Induced Phase Transitions in Polyelectrolyte Gels
Sammanfattning : The thesis concerns polyelectrolyte gels in contact with oppositely charged proteins and surfactant micelles, and includes of four papers (I-IV). In paper I confocal Raman spectroscopy was introduced as a method to trace micelles and investigate the structure of gel-surfactant complexes, in phase separated gel spheres. LÄS MER
