  1. 26. On the effects of tactile touch in Parkinson's disease patients

    Författare :Örjan Skogar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Tactile Touch as a treatment modality is, in broad terms, scientifically unexplored. Patients use Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) forms of treatment outside the area of pharmaceuticals to a great extent, particularly patients suffering from chronic diseases. LÄS MER

  2. 27. Polymorphism in sex steroid-related genes. Effects on hormone levels and behavior

    Författare :Lars Westberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sex steroids; androgen receptor; estrogen receptor; progesterone receptor; polymorphism; genetics; association study; prolactin; personality; premenstrual dysphoric disorder; Parkinson s disease;

    Sammanfattning : Genetic factors are important for variations between individuals with respect to most humantraits and diseases. Sex steroids are of profound importance for reproduction, metabolism,cardiovascular function and bone formation. They are potent regulators of their ownsynthesis as well as of that of other hormones, including prolactin. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Involvement of non-dopaminergic systems in L-DOPA-induced dyskinsia

    Författare :Daniella Rylander; Basala gangliernas patofysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson s disease; Dyskinesia; L-DOPA; 6-OHDA rat model; MPTP monkey model; glutamate; serotonin; DA.; 5-HT;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson's disease and L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia (LID) does not merely involve the dopamine (DA) system but also include non-dopaminergic systems such as glutamate and serotonin (5-HT). An aberrant glutamate transmission at the corticostriatal synapse, has been linked to LID. LÄS MER

  4. 29. Endogenous and treatment-induced neuroplasticity in mouse models of Parkinson's disease

    Författare :Francesco Bez; Basala gangliernas patofysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson´s disease (PD) is an age-related neurodegenerative disorder characterized by a loss of nigral dopamine (DA) neurons that project their axons to the striatum. Striatal DA depletion causes the typical motor symptoms of PD. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Cytochrome P450 2E1 - relevance for central dopamine neurotransmission and Parkinson's disease

    Författare :Haydeh Niazi Shahabi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :cytochrome P450 2E1; dopamine; substantia nigra; polymorphism; alternative splicing;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: The enzyme cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) has been found in dopamine (DA) containing brain regions that are of relevance for Parkinson?s disease (PD), and is known to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS), toxic molecules that have been implicated in the degeneration of DA neurones. In addition, previous investigations have indicated that inhibition of CYP2E1 increases extracellular DA in the substantia nigra, a nucleus which degenerates in PD. LÄS MER
