16. Parkinson’s disease and depression : clinical and neurobiological studies
Sammanfattning : Parkinson´s disease (PD) is a progressive degenerative movement disorder. PD patients also suffer from several non-motor symptoms including autonomic disturbances, cognitive decline and neuropsychiatric conditions. LÄS MER
17. Directing stem cells and progenitors towards neuronal differentiation - implications for experimental therapies for Parkinson's disease
Sammanfattning : The insight that stem- and progenitor-cells contribute to replacement of nerve cells in the adult central nervous system is the basis of modern therapies for structural brain repair. Their goal is to protect, support and stimulate endogenous stem cells in areas affected by disease and to replace lost cells by transplanting in vitro generated, tailored nerve cells. LÄS MER
18. Health-related quality of life in persons with Parkinson's disease. Aspects of symptoms, caregiving and sense of coherence
Sammanfattning : Abstract Aims: The aim of this thesis was to investigate how the impact of Parkinson’s disease, a chronic neurodegenerative disorder, influences the person’s health-related quality of life. The aim was also to investigate nursing assessment and management of Parkinson’s in elderly persons. LÄS MER
19. Cell Replacement Therapy for Parkinson's Disease: Potential for Circuitry Repair
Sammanfattning : The derivation of dopamine neurons from human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) now offers a promising alternative to fetal tissue for cell replacement therapy (CRT) in Parkinson´s disease (PD). Using the appropriate chemical cues in vitro, hESCs can be patterned towards bona-fide ventral midbrain (VM) DA neurons that survive, reinnervate, release DA and provide functional recovery when transplanted into rodent and non-human primate models of PD. 20. Toward a restorative therapy for Parkinson´s disease. Studies on the functional efficacy of intracerebral fetal cell transplants and GDNF delivery
Sammanfattning : Parkinson´s disease is characterized by a progressive degeneration of the nigral dopaminergic system. Treatment of disease symptoms using L-DOPA frequently induces side effects such as L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia. LÄS MER
