  1. 21. New Approaches for Levodopa Treatment in Parkinson’s Disease

    Författare :Marina Senek; Dag Nyholm; Elisabet I Nielsen; Maral Mouradian; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson’s disease; Pharmacokinetics; Pharmacodynamics; Population modeling; Levodopa; Carbidopa; Entacapone; Microtablets; Intestinal infusion;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease (PD) is characterized by degeneration of dopaminergic cells, which results in dopamine depletion. Levodopa is the most effective symptomatic treatment, however, disease progression along with the unfavorable pharmacokinetics of levodopa makes the disease increasingly difficult to treat with time. 2. 22. Aspects of Parkinson's disease. Epidemiology, risk factors and ECT in advanced disease

    Författare :Per-Arne Fall; Ann-Kathrine Granérus; Jan Petter Larsen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Parkinson s disease; PD; treatment; epidemiology; electroconvulsive therapy; ECT; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose was to investigate some aspects of epidemiology, risk factors and treatment with ECT in advanced Parkinson’s disease (PD).In study I, we performed a descriptive epidemiologic population-based survey in the Central Health Care District in Östergötland in south-east Sweden, with a population of almost 150,000 inhabitants 1989. 3. 23. Sensor-based knowledge- and data-driven methods : A case of Parkinson’s disease motor symptoms quantification

    Författare :Somayeh Aghanavesi; Mark Dougherty; Mobyen Uddin Ahmed; Högskolan Dalarna; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Parkinson’s disease; motion sensors; motor symptoms; smartphone; microdata; multivariate analysis; data-driven; knowledge-driven; support vector machine stepwise regression; predictive models; Complex Systems – Microdata Analysis; Komplexa system - mikrodataanalys;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to develop and evaluate new knowledge- and data-driven methods for supporting treatment and providing information for better assessment of Parkinson’s disease (PD).PD is complex and progressive. There is a large amount of inter- and intravariability in motor symptoms of patients with PD (PwPD). LÄS MER

  4. 24. Living with Lewy body dementia. Treatment, survival & quality of life

    Författare :Victoria Larsson; Klinisk minnesforskning; []
    Nyckelord :Lewy bodies; Lewy body dementia; Lewy body disease; QUALITATIVE; Lewy Body Disease: drug therapy; Lewy Body Disease: mortality; Lewy Body Disease: therapy; DEMENTIA; dementia with Lewy bodies; Parkinson s disease dementia; Parkinson disease; memantine; Prognosis and survival; Prognosis; Survival; mortality; Dysphagia; Carbonated beverages; Swallowing disorders; Therapeutics; Video recording; video analysing technique; QUALITY OF LIFE;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Patients with Lewy body dementias (LBD) have a complex clinical picture. With no prevention or cure, management focuses around symptomatic relief, however pharmacological and non-pharmacological options have been inadequately investigated. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Exploring Patient-Specific Cell Replacement Therapy for Parkinson's Disease

    Författare :Shelby Shrigley; Utvecklings- och regenerativ neurobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dopaminergic neurons; Parkinson s disease; cell replacement therapy; cellular reprogramming; alpha-synuclein;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease (PD) affects over six million people worldwide and is characterised by the progressive loss of dopaminergic (DA) neurons in the substantia nigra, accumulation of pathological alpha-synuclein (αSyn), and inflammation in the brain. This leads to motor impairments including rigidity, akinesia, bradykinesia, resting tremor, and postural instability. LÄS MER
