  1. 1. Liver regeneration : With reference to malnutrition and growth factors

    Författare :Stefan Skullman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :cholecystokinin; energy substrates; epidermal growth factor; insulin-like growth factor I; liver composition; liver regeneration; malnutrition; pancreaticobiliary diversion; protein synthesis; rat; transfonning growth factor alpha; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The liver has a unique capacity to regenerate after damage, irrespective of cause. The regulatory mechanisms of this regeneration are not fully known. Liver regeneration· is associated with rapid growth and thereby increased demands for energy and synthesis of new compounds. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Separation of Water and Fat Signal in Magnetic Resonance Imaging : Advances in Methods Based on Chemical Shift

    Författare :Johan Berglund; Joel Kullberg; Lars Johansson; Håkan Ahlström; Zhi-Pei Liang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Magnetic resonance imaging; digital image reconstruction; chemical shift imaging; water and fat separation; Dixon method; fat suppression; quantitative MRI; whole-body MRI; fatty acid composition; fat unsaturation; triglycerides; adipose tissue; liver fat; T2* mapping; Radiology; Radiologi; Radiology; Radiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is one of the most important diagnostic tools of modern healthcare. The signal in medical MRI predominantly originates from water and fat molecules. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Dietary Fatty Acids, Body Composition and Ectopic Fat : Results from Overfeeding Studies in Humans

    Författare :Fredrik Rosqvist; Ulf Risérus; Tommy Cederholm; Ian Macdonald; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Linoleic acid; Palmitic acid; SFA; PUFA; Fatty acids; Body composition; Liver fat; Ectopic fat; Adipose tissue; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the effects of dietary fatty acids on body composition and ectopic fat in humans, with emphasis on the role of the omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) linoleic acid (18:2n-6) and the saturated fatty acid (SFA) palmitic acid (16:0). The overall hypothesis was that linoleic acid would be beneficial compared with palmitic acid during overfeeding, as previously indicated in animals. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Effects of a Paleolithic diet and exercise on liver fat, muscle fat and insulin sensitivity

    Författare :Julia Otten; Tommy Olsson; Bo Angelin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; type 2 diabetes; liver fat; Paleolithic diet; exercise training; insulin sensitivity; overweight; intramyocellular lipid content;

    Sammanfattning : Finding ways to reduce risk for obesity-related disorders, including type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, is important. Such approaches can include lifestyle interventions by diet and exercise. Our ancestors in the Paleolithic Era ate a diet based on vegetables, fruit, berries, lean meat, fish, seafood, nuts and eggs. 5. 5. Fat-Referenced MRI : Quantitative MRI for Tissue Characterization and Volume Measurement

    Författare :Thobias Romu; Magnus Borga; Olof Dahlqvist Leinhard; Samir Sharma; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MRI; water-fat separation; quantitative MRI;

    Sammanfattning : The amount and distribution of adipose and lean tissues has been shown to be predictive of mortality and morbidity in metabolic disease. Traditionally these risks are assessed by anthropometric measurements based on weight, length, girths or the body mass index (BMI). LÄS MER
