  1. 1. Possibilities of using thermal mass in buildings to save energy, cut power consumption peaks and increase the thermal comfort

    Författare :Jonathan Karlsson; Avdelningen för Byggnadsmaterial; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; concrete; aggregates; heat capacity; thermal properties; thermal conductivity; thermal inertia; thermal mass; time constant; Energy storage;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this project was to generate knowledge to enable us to take advantage of heat storage in heavy building structures with regard to as energy savings, better thermal indoor climate, and reduced peak powers. This could include buildings that can function without energy input during cold periods, buildings that give a robust indoor climate without installed cooling, and buildings with good thermal comfort also in case of higher outdoor temperatures resulting from global warming. 2. 2. The Physical Environment and Occupant Thermal Perceptions in Office Buildings An Evaluation of Sampled Data from Five European Countries

    Författare :John Leland Stoops; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; thermal sensation; Europe; thermal preference; seasonal variation; office buildings; temperature perception; outdoor temperature; interior temperature; field study; thermal comfort; Clo; Met; carbon dioxide;

    Sammanfattning : The results from a large field study of thermal comfort in European office buildings are reported. Measurements of physical environmental conditions and occupant perceptions were collected over sixteen months from twenty-six different office buildings located in France, Greece, Portugal, Sweden and the UK. 3. 3. Outdoor thermal comfort of residents in a warm humid climate : A study on informal settlements in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

    Författare :Modest Maurus Baruti; Boende och bostadsutveckling; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Outdoor thermal comfort; Microclimate; Thermal perception; Urbanites; Informal settlements; Informal urban fabric; Warm humid climates; Dar es Salaam; Physiological Equivalent temperature PET ; New Standard Effective Temperature SET* ; Universal Thermal Climate Index UTCI ;

    Sammanfattning : In the informal settlements of warm humid climates, where the majority of urbanites spend most of their time outdoors, a conducive thermal environment is crucial for their social and economic well-being. The overall aim of this thesis is to increase knowledge and understanding of outdoor thermal comfort in informal settlements in the warm and humid climate of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Extensive green roofs in Porto Alegre, Brazil : Effect on indoor thermal comfort in residential buildings

    Författare :Lisandra Fachinello Krebs; Institutionen för arkitektur och byggd miljö; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Architecture; Computer simulations; Extensive green roofs; Housing projects; Indoor thermal comfort; Leaf area index; Microclimate; Social housing; Sustainability; Thermal comfort;

    Sammanfattning : Brazil had a significant quantitative housing deficit of 7.7 million residences in 2015, especially in low-income housing. Traditionally, these projects have low levels of thermal insulation which can result in discomfort caused by warmth or cold. The residential sector is responsible for a significant part of the energy use in Brazil. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Improvement of Thermal Comfort in Buildings through Passive Design

    Författare :Marcelino Januário Rodrigues; Byggnadskonstruktion; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Buildings; Sustainability; Energy Efficiency; Passive Design; Orientation; Shading; Ventilation; Materials; Temperatures; Thermal Comfort; Simulations; Retrofitting; Hot Humid Regions.;

    Sammanfattning : In hot humid regions the high outdoor temperature has negative effects on the indoor temperature of buildings that are not designed to cope with the local climate. This leads to discomfort for the occupants. LÄS MER
