  1. 6. Aspects of bone quality and risk assessments in fracture and elective orthopaedic patients

    Författare :Camilla Bergh; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fracture; Fracture incidence; Epidemiology; Mortality; Osteoporosis; Frailty; Spinal stenosis; Bone quality; Bone mineral density;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Bone quality, bone strength, and bone remodelling are important in many orthopaedic conditions and can have an impact on fracture incidence, bone healing, implant failure, and different outcome aspects. There is relatively sparse information on fracture incidence and mortality both for all fractures compiled and for some of the individual fracture locations. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Pharmacological and hormonal effects on bone with emphasis on osteoporosis : experimental studies in the rat

    Författare :Eva Samnegård; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis influences of some hormones (17beta-estradiol and human parathyroid hormone) and drugs (risedronate and verapamil) on bone were investigated. The effects of verapamil, a phenylalkylamine calcium channel blocker, on bone mass in female and male rats on a low calcium diet were evaluated. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Pharmacological Modulation of Skeletal Homeostasis

    Författare :Niklas U. Andersson; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Farmakologi; toxicology; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi; pharmacy; pharmacognosy; Pharmacological sciences; peripheral quantitative computed tomography.; dual energy X-ray absorptiomenty; estrogen; parathyroid hormone; gastrectomy; alendronate; ovariectomy; Bone;

    Sammanfattning : Both ovariectomy (OVX) and gastrectomy (GX) cause osteopenia in several animal species including humans. While the effect of OVX has been ascribed to estrogen deficiency, the underlying mechanism behind GX-induced osteopenia is poorly understood. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Factors in secondary prevention subsequent to distal radius fracture : Focus on physical function, co-morbidity, bone mineral density and health-related quality of life

    Författare :Helena Nordvall; Jack Lysholm; Gunnevi Sundelin; Margareta Möller; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; distal radius fracture; bone mineral density BMD ; functional tests; mortality; morbidity; the SF-36; fall diary; Physiotherapy; Sjukgymnastik fysioterapi;

    Sammanfattning : In Sweden approximately 25000 distal radius fractures occur annually, which is 37 % of all fractures related to osteoporosis. In this thesis, risk factors for osteoporosis, bone mineral density (BMD) and health-related quality of life (the SF-36) were compared in patients who suffered a distal radius fracture after low energy trauma with a control group matched on the basis of age, gender, and municipality of residence. 5. 10. Hip fracture in young and old subjects : aspects on risk factors and outcome

    Författare :Amer Al-Ani; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Hip fractures, the most serious osteoporosis-related fractures, mainly affect older people. The functional outcome for many hip fracture patients remains to be improved. Hip fractures in young patients are uncommon, but lifelong disability may prevail. LÄS MER
