Sammanfattning : A range of porous solid adsorbents were synthesised and their ability to separate and capture carbon dioxide (CO2) from gas mixtures was examined. CO2 separation from flue gas – a type of exhaust gas from fossil fuel combustion that consists of CO2 mixed with mainly nitrogen and biogas (consists of CO2 mixed with mainly methane) were explicitly considered. 2. Porous Amorphous Calcium Carbonate and Phosphate : Synthesis and Application
Sammanfattning : The synthesis of porous amorphous calcium carbonate (ACC) and porous amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) was developed in this thesis. Porous ACC with specific Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area of >350 m2/g was synthesized using a surfactant free approach. The high surface area of porous ACC was related to its nanostructure. Sammanfattning : The rising levels of greenhouse gas emissions from vehicular and industrial pollution constitute a serious concern not only for the environment but for our entire society. Traditional gas capture and separation techniques, such as amine scrubbing for CO2 gas separation, have been commonly used at a commercial scale, however issues relating to high costs and high energy requirements for sorbent regeneration have limited the efficiency of many of these techniques.
