1. Biological effects of high energy radiation and ultra high dose rates
Sammanfattning : Recently a powerful electron accelerator, 50 MeV race-track microtron, has been taken into clinical use. This gives the opportunity to treat patients with higher x-ray and electron energies than before. Furthermore, treatments can be performed were the entire fractional dose can be delivered in parts of a second. LÄS MER
2. Radiobiological end-points for the theoretical evaluation of the effectiveness of carbon ions and photons in treating tumours with dynamic hypoxia
Sammanfattning : Tumours are characterised by unorganised vasculature, which often results in hypoxic regions. Hypoxia is a common cause for photon radiotherapy (RT) treatment failure, as hypoxic cells require up to 2-3 times higher doses compared to well-oxygenated cells for the same effect in terms of cell kill. 3. Modelling and Simulation of Electro-catalysts for Green Energy : From Solvated Complexes to Solid-Liquid Interfaces
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I have worked with solid-liquid interfaces, adsorbed molecules on the surface, and solvated complexes using Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations to find possible signatures that could help design suitable energy materials. More specifically, I have explored hybrid electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), XPS fingerprints of gas-phase melamine (monomer, dimer, trimer, and hexagonal packed arrangement), hexagonally packed melamine adsorbed on the Au(111) surface, and high-valence Ruthenium complexes along a reaction pathway in aqueous solution through a joint theory-experiment approach. 4. Efficiency and Selectivity in the Chlorate Process
Sammanfattning : This licentiate thesis presents experimental studies concerning two parts of the electrochemical cell in the chlorate process: a cathode and an anode.Newly synthesized MnOx electrodes were investigated for the cathodic reaction, hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in the chlorate process. 5. Selectivity and gas composition in electrochemical systems by mass spectrometry
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis presents experimental studies of gaseous products of two electrochemical systems: the chlorate process and the nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery, employing mass spectrometry. The cathodic efficiency for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) of the chlorate process was investigated by employing ex-situ synthesized MnOx electrodes.
