  1. 6. Immunity & the butterfly : A functional genomic study of natural variation in immunity

    Författare :Naomi L.P. Keehnen; Christopher W. Wheat; Brian Lazzaro; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; eco-immunology; functional genomics; transcriptomics; innate immunity; selection dynamics; melanization; phagocytosis; population genetics; Pieris napi; populationsgenetik; Population Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Butterflies are ubiquitous and abundant, occurring in a wide variety of environments that contain diverse microbial communities with varied pathogenic pressures. These pathogens and parasites present a constant threat to organisms, and have led to the evolution of complex and intricate immune responses. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Uncovering the genetics underlying host-parasite interactions during Plasmodium falciparum malaria transmission

    Författare :Mubasher Mohammed; Johan Ankarklev; David Serre; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Malaria; Plasmodium falciparum; Genomics; single-cell RNA-seq; Parasite cell fate; Anopheles gambiae; ApiAP2 transcription factors; driver genes; computational biology; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : In eukaryotes, cellular differentiation is often orchestrated by programmed arrays of activation and repression of genes underlying the specific phenotypes of cell-types. To complete its life cycle, the single-celled Apicomplexan parasite Plasmodium falciparum, the most deadly of the human malaria parasites, must repeatedly differentiate and convert into unique cell types that can exploit niches within their human and mosquito hosts. Sammanfattning : Comparative genomics provides a tool to investigate large biological datasets, i.e. genomic datasets. In my thesis I focused on inferring patterns of selection in coding and non-coding regions of avian genomes. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Comparative Genomics of Endosymbiotic Bacteria

    Författare :Ivica Tamas; Paul Baumann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; comparative genomics; endosymbiotic bacteria; Buchnera; reductive evolution; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Genomes of intracellular bacteria are thought to be the products of reductive evolution. They have evolved from ancestral genomes of free-living bacteria through a process of massive gene loss. LÄS MER
