  1. 1. Pheromone production in the butterfly Pieris napi L

    Författare :Rushana Murtazina; Raimondas Mozuraitis; Joop van Loon; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Pieris; Lepidoptera; pheromone; aphrodisiaca; antiaphrodisiaca; biosynthesis; flower volatiles; stable isotopes; incorporation; neral; geranial; methyl salicylate; benzyl cyanide; L - phenylalanine;

    Sammanfattning : Aphrodisiac and anti-aphrodisiac pheromone production and composition in the green-veined white butterfly Pieris napi L. were investigated.Aphrodisiac pheromone biosynthesis had different time constraints in butterflies from the diapausing and directly developing generations. 2. 2. The evolution of mating rates in Pieris napi

    Författare :Jonas Bergström; Christer Wiklund; Göran Arnqvist; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In the green-veined white butterfly (Pieris napi), females obtain direct fitness benefits from mating multiply and studies have shown that fitness increases seemingly monotonically with number of matings. The reason is that at mating males transfer a large nutritious gift (a so called nuptial gift) to the females that the females use to increase both their fecundity and lifespan. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Immunity & the butterfly : A functional genomic study of natural variation in immunity

    Författare :Naomi L.P. Keehnen; Christopher W. Wheat; Brian Lazzaro; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; eco-immunology; functional genomics; transcriptomics; innate immunity; selection dynamics; melanization; phagocytosis; population genetics; Pieris napi; populationsgenetik; Population Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Butterflies are ubiquitous and abundant, occurring in a wide variety of environments that contain diverse microbial communities with varied pathogenic pressures. These pathogens and parasites present a constant threat to organisms, and have led to the evolution of complex and intricate immune responses. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Effects of climate on phenological synchrony between butterflies and their host plants

    Författare :Diana Posledovich; Karl Gotthard; Christer Wiklund; Johan Ehrlén; Boggs Carol; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Phenology; phenological synchrony; Anthocharis cardamines; Pieris napi; latitudinal variation; zoologisk ekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Shifts in species’ phenologies and phenological asynchronies between the interacting organisms have received a lot of attention in the context of climate change. Changes in temporal overlap between species, caused by phenological asynchrony, make species depending on one another become so separated in time that they can no longer interact. LÄS MER

  5. 5. A life history perspective on mating behaviour in the butterfly Pieris napi

    Författare :Helena Larsdotter Mellström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; zoologisk ekologi; Animal Ecology;
