  1. 1. Pain in pediatric oncology : Explorative and interventional studies focusing on oral mucositis

    Författare :Tove Kamsvåg; Gustaf Ljungman; Louise von Essen; Johan Arvidson; Stefan Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Children; Pain; Oncology; Mucositis; Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation; Pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to examine the prevalence of pain in children treated for cancer with a special focus oral mucositis. In addition, we wanted to examine if oral cryotherapy (OC) could reduce the incidence of severe oral mucositis in children undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), and explore new methods to implement OC. Sammanfattning : Anthracyclines belong to a class of cytostatic compounds that are commonly used to treat various types of cancers, including lymphoma, breast cancer and primary liver cancer. The aim of this thesis was to study how two anthracyclines, doxorubicin and idarubicin, induced cytotoxicity in tumor cells, as well as their off-target effect on the gastrointestinal system. Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate oral cryotherapy (OC) as prophy-laxis against oral mucositis (OM) in patients given high-dose chemotherapy for stem cell transplantation (SCT). A new mouth rinse device was tested for possible additive effect to OC.For study I-III, 78 patients were randomised to OC or standard oral care (SOC). LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Oral mucositis (OM) is a debilitating adverse effect, with a prevalence of up to 80% in patients with cancer who are conditioned with high-dose chemotherapy prior to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. In its mildest form, OM is characterized by erythema. However, as it worsens, it can give rise to painful ulcerations in the oral mucosa. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Oral mucositis and periodontal disease in patients with primary or acquired immunodeficiencies
