1. Extreme hemodilution: Effects of inhalation anesthetics, hypoxia, and blood loss. An Experimental study in pigs
Sammanfattning : Hemodilution reduces the need for blood transfusion and hereby the risk for transmission of infectious agents. The present study investigated effects on systemic and myocardial circulation and oxygenation, and blood lactate concentrations; induced by nitrous oxide, isoflurane, hypoxia, and uncompensated blood loss, in pigs hemodiluted to a hematocrit of 11%. 2. Multispectral imaging of hemoglobin oxygen saturation in skin microcirculation
Sammanfattning : The ability to measure microcirculatory parameters such as hemoglobin oxygen saturation is important since it mirrors the microcirculatory state of the body. The microcirculation delivers oxygen and nutrients to the cells of the body and, if impaired, may be a sign of circulatory failure. LÄS MER
3. Preclinical Studies for Cryoprevention of Oral Mucositis
Sammanfattning : Oral mucositis (OM) is a debilitating adverse effect, with a prevalence of up to 80% in patients with cancer who are conditioned with high-dose chemotherapy prior to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. In its mildest form, OM is characterized by erythema. However, as it worsens, it can give rise to painful ulcerations in the oral mucosa. LÄS MER
4. Model-based quantitative assessment of skin microcirculatory blood flow and oxygen saturation
Sammanfattning : The microcirculation, involving the smallest vessels in the body, is where the oxygen transport to all tissue occurs. Evaluating microcirculatory parameters is, therefore, important and involves the quantification of oxygen content of red blood cells (RBCs), the amount of RBCs and their speed. LÄS MER
5. Photon propagation in tissue and in biological fluids : applied for vascular imaging and haemodialysis monitoring
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the photon propagation in tissue and in biological fluids in two main areas: (1) optical vessel imaging and (2) monitoring solutes removed in haemodialysis. The aim of the optical vessel imaging study was to design and assess a new optical scanning technique for vessel imaging using NIR radiation.
