Sammanfattning : Malignant melanoma and breast cancer are common malignant diseases characterized by considerable heterogeneity with respect to genetics, histopathology, biology and clinical course. In breast cancer, two major susceptibility genes have been identified, BRCA1 and BRCA2, which account for a significant proportion of high-risk breast cancer families. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : Melanoma is one of the deadliest forms of cancer. Unfortunately, its incidence rates have been increasing all over the world. One of the techniques used by dermatologists to diagnose melanomas is an imaging modality called dermoscopy. The skin lesion is inspected using a magnification device and a light source. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : Background: The interplay between tumor site, ultraviolet radiation (UVR) exposure, genetic factors and various epidemiological parameters of cutaneous melanoma is complex. In this thesis, we aimed to investigate the impact of detailed body site of the primary tumor beyond the conventional and strictly anatomic division of the head-neck, trunk, upper- and lower extremities, focusing on body site division according to UVR exposure patterns in relation to risk, outcome and other factors. 4. Electrical impedance of human skin and tissue alterations : mathematical modeling and measurements
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of the studies in this thesis is twofold. One is oriented towards calibrating a classifier in differentiating between malignant melanoma and benign nevi of the skin. LÄS MER
5. Nucleic Acids as Drug Targets - Influence of Platinum Complexes on Duplex Stability and Binding Kinetics
Sammanfattning : Gaining a detailed understanding of how human cells are affected by metal-based drugs is crucial, since these drugs have shown great potential in cancer treatment. Cisplatin is used to treat many different types of cancer, e.g. testicular, ovarian, melanoma, bladder, non-small cell lung cancer, small cell lung cancer, myelomas and lymphomas. LÄS MER
