  1. 1. Household food waste management – Evaluations of current status and potential improvements using life-cycle assessment methodology

    Författare :Anna Bernstad; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; waste management; household waste; food waste; life-cycle assessment; anaerobic digestion; systems analysis;

    Sammanfattning : An increased understanding of the world’s limited resources and the negative environmental impacts connected to solid waste management has in recent years increased interest in separate collection and treatment of organic waste in many parts of the world. As an example, increased biological treatment of organic waste is an explicit goal within the Swedish national solid waste management strategy (SEPA, 2006) and the national environmental objectives state that 35% of all organic household waste should be treated biologically by 2010 (SEPA, 2007). 2. 2. Mixed fuels composed of household waste and waste wood : Characterization, combustion behaviour and potential emissions

    Författare :Mar Edo Giménez; Stina Jansson; Jonas Dahl; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MSW; RDF; persistent organic pollutants; PCDD; PCDF; solid waste pre-treatment; torrefaction; food waste; contaminated wood;

    Sammanfattning :    Incineration with energy recovery is the main disposal strategy for waste that cannot be reused or recycled, and a well-established source of energy in Europe, especially in Sweden where 2.2 Mtonnes of waste including domestic and imported municipal solid waste (MSW) and waste wood (WW) were combusted during 2015. 3. 3. Recovery of organic carbon from municipal waste streams

    Författare :Isaac Owusu-Agyeman; Elzbieta Plaza; Zeynep Cetecioglu; Irini Angelidaki; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biogas; Volatile fatty acid; Anaerobic granules; Co-digestion; Municipal waste; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The focus of the current study was on the recovery of carbon from municipal bio-waste streams. Firstly, the relationship between methanogenic pathways and the properties of anaerobic granules was studied using two pilot-scale upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactors with different granule size distribution. 4. 4. Increase of Biogas Production at Wastewater Treatment Plants Addition of urban organic waste and pre-treatment of sludge

    Författare :Åsa Davidsson; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; kontroll av utsläpp; pollution control; Miljöteknik; Environmental technology; Miljöstudier; Environmental studies; biogas; anaerobic digestion; sludge; Wastewater; organic waste; methane;

    Sammanfattning : Anaerobic digestion of organic matter results in the production of biogas, which can be used to replace fossil fuels. There is potential for increased biogas production at wastewater treatment plants by digesting urban organic waste either separately or together with the sludge. Biogas production could also be increased by sludge pre-treatment. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Microbial biopolymer production from waste streams

    Författare :Kasra Khatami Mashhadi; Zeynep Cetecioglu; Anders F. Andersson; Maria Reis; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bioaugmentation; Burkholderia cepacia; Cupriavidus necator; Mixed microbial cultures; Polyhydroxyalkanoates; Volatile fatty acids; Bioaugmentering; Burkholderia cepacia; Cupriavidus necator; Blandade mikrobiella kulturer; Polyhydroxyalkanoater; Flyktiga fettsyror; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Burgeoning concerns on the adverse environmental impacts of fossil-derived products are propelling the pursuit of material production from sustainable resources. Resource recovery from waste is a key component of meeting the environmental sustainability agendas set by the United Nations. LÄS MER
