1. Manganese cycling in the Baltic Sea over the last ~8000 years: the influence of redox conditions on mineral formation and burial
Sammanfattning : The Baltic Sea is one of the largest brackish water bodies in the world and is suffering extensive environmental issues caused by eutrophication and warming climate. A halocline in the water column divides more saline bottom water fed by inflows through the narrow connection with the North Sea from the surface waters and inhibiting exchange of oxygen between the two water masses. 2. Fatigue Anisotropy in Forged Components
Sammanfattning : Ever-growing requirements on combustion engine efficiency of motor vehicles demand increasing service loads in powertrain components. Optimization of component material is therefore inevitable. A major detriment with many forged transmission components is their anisotropic mechanical behavior, not least during cyclic loading. 3. Crystallographic Studies of Ternary Chalcogenides and Organic Semiconductors
Sammanfattning : X-ray diffraction methods have been used to study the crystal structure of different compounds, both organic and inorganic. The inorganic compounds were all synthesized by solid state reactions. A new compound, Re4As6S3, was synthesized and its structure was solved by Rietveld methods. LÄS MER
4. Role of manganese redox cycling for trace metals in the Baltic Sea
Sammanfattning : Redox zones are defined by steep gradients of changing concentrations and changing redox potential. They form a transition zone between oxic and anoxic/sulfidic conditions, where nitrate, manganese and iron reduction occurs. These redox zones can be situated in the sediment as well as in the water column. In the Baltic Sea both types are found. LÄS MER
5. Synthesis of Polymeric Nanocomposites for Drug Delivery and Bioimaging
Sammanfattning : Nanomaterials have gained great attention for biomedical applications due to their extraordinary physico-chemical and biological properties. The current dissertation presents the design and development of multifunctional nanoparticles for molecular imaging and controlled drug delivery applications which include biodegradable polymeric nanoparticles, superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION)/polymeric nanocomposite for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and drug delivery, manganese-doped zinc sulfide (Mn:ZnS) quantum dots (QDs)/ SPION/ polymeric nanocomposites for fluorescence imaging, MRI and drug delivery.
