  1. 1. The Immune System in the Oldest-Old : Clinical and Immunological Studies in the NONA Immune Cohort

    Författare :Bengt-Olof Nilsson; Jan Ernerudh; Anders Wikby; Sture Löfgren; Karlis Pauksens; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Elderly; selection; health status; lymphocyte subsets; CD8; CMV; cytomegalovirus; immune risk; immune risk phenotype; IRP; T-cells; interleukin 6; IL-6; survival; mortality; antinuclear antibodies; ANA; ageing; immunosenescence; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The oldest-old (people aged 80 or older) constituted 5 % of the population in Sweden in 2000, an increase from 1.5 % fifty years earlier. The immune system undergoes dramatic changes at high age, sometimes referred to as “immunosenescence”. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Spatial immune analyses in clinical cancer tissue

    Författare :Max Backman; Patrick Micke; Fredrik Pontén; Johan Botling; Kurt Schalper; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; immune landscape; non-small cell lung cancer; immune cells; multiplex immunofluorescence; spatial analysis; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Cancer is a leading cause of premature death and lung cancer is the deadliest cancer type, with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) representing 85% of lung cancer cases. Despite promising development in cancer treatment in recent decades, overall prognosis is poor. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Effects of Complement Opsonization of HIV on Dendritic Cells : and Implications for the Immune Response

    Författare :Rada Ellegård; Marie Larsson; Jorma Hinkula; Johan D Söderholm; William Paxton; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HIV; dendritic cells; complement; innate immune response; TLR signaling; T cell activation; NK cells; inflammation; antiviral response; immune evasion;

    Sammanfattning : Dendritic cells are key players during HIV pathogenesis, and shape both the immediate immune response at the site of infection as well as directing the adaptive immune response against the virus. HIV has developed a plethora of immune evasion mechanisms that hijack dendritic cell functions, suppressing their ability to mount an accurate immune response and exploiting them for efficient viral transfer to target T cells. 4. 4. Immunogenetic markers in immune mediated diseases

    Författare :Liene Nikitina-Zake; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :HLA; MICA; TNFA; TNFa; KIR; CIN; cervical cancer; juvenile arthritis; MCTD; type I diabetes mellitus;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study HLA class II markers, as well as other - MHC and non MHC genes in different immune - mediated diseases, namely, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), cervical cancer, juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) and type I diabetes mellitus (T1 DM). HLA class II genes are located on the short arm of chromosome 6 and are known to be important for pathogenesis of immune-mediated diseases due to the function of the molecules these genes encode. 5. 5. Aspects on sepsis : treatment and markers

    Författare :Anna Gustafsson; Malmö högskola; []
    Nyckelord :antimicrobial peptides; cytokines; lipoteichoic acid; lipopolysaccharide; soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor; sepsis;

    Sammanfattning : Sepsis is one of the greatest challenges in critical care medicine today, while the treatment of sepsis and evaluation of its severity is complicated. The first part of this thesis presents two approaches on the use of antimicrobial peptides in sepsis treatment, relying on both soluble and immobilized peptides. LÄS MER
