  1. 26. Interactions and phase stability in Ni-rich binary alloys

    Författare :Shuang He; Andrei Ruban; Biplab Sanyal; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ni-based superalloys; ab initio calculations; atomic ordering; effective interactions.; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Ni-based superalloys are the important materials for gas turbines in advancedaeroplane engines . The addition of refractory elements to these superalloys,such as rhenium and tungsten, can significantly improve the hightemperatureperformance by so-called solid-solution hardening. LÄS MER

  2. 27. Nonlinear dynamics of strongly-bound magnetic vortex pairs

    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magnetic vortex; nonlinear mechanics; isolated resonance; nonlinear frequency tuning; chaotic dynamics; parametric interaction; Thiele equation; Monte Carlo simulations; Ito processes; bistability; tunneling magneto-resistance; Magnetisk-virvel; icke-linjär dynamik; isolerad resonans; icke-linjär frekvens-optimering; kaotisk dynamik; parametrisk interaktion; Thiele-ekvation; Monte Carlo-simuleringar; Ito-processer; bistabilitet; tunnelmagneto-resistans.; Fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : This work is a study of nonlinear phenomena in vertically stacked pairs of magnetic vortices. New dynamic regimes are uncovered with a decrease in the inter-vortex separation to below the lateral vortex-core size. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Diffusive interactions play an important role in protein stability and mobility : Investigations of the intracellular milieu using in-cell NMR

    Författare :Therese Sörensen; Mikael Oliveberg; Per Jemth; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; in-cell NMR; protein-protein interactions; mobility; stability; thermodynamics; Nuclear Magnetic Resonance; stopped-flow spectroscopy; proteins; SOD1; HAH1; TTHA1718; cells; cytoplasm; humans; bacteria; ions; polyions; electrostatics; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Proteins are crucial for all cellular life. Every signal received by a cell, and every response to it, is mediated by proteins. Inside cells, these proteins diffusively sample each other’s surfaces, as they travel through the cytoplasm in search of their specific interaction partners. LÄS MER

    Författare :Mattias Nilsson; Atomfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantum optics; relaxation; magnetic resonance; supraconductors; magnetic and optical properties; electrical; Condensed matter:electronic structure; Atom- och molekylärfysik; optical information processing; coherence in solids; Atomic and molecular physics; rare-earth-ion-doped crystals; magnetisk resonans; spektroskopi; supraledare; magnetiska och optiska ; egenskaper elektriska; Kondenserade materiens egenskaper:elektronstruktur; spectroscopy; quantum information;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes investigations of the use of cryogenically cooled rare-earth-ion-doped crystals for quantum information processing and quantum optics. Several aspects of the coherent interaction between light and rare-earth ions in solids are addressed. Quantum information science has given physicists new views of quantum mechanics. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Thermodynamics of protein-DNA interactions

    Författare :Thomas Lundbäck; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :DNA-protein interactions; molecular recognition; thermodynamics; specificity.dehydration; salt dependence.;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis treats the molecular recognition between DNA-binding proteins and DNA and the way these interactions are affected by the surrounding water solution and dissolved solutes. The work involves studies on the thermodynamics of sequence specific DNA-binding of the human glucocorticoid receptor DNA-binding domain and the nonsequence specific DNA- binding of Sso7d from the archaeon Sulfolobus solfataricus.
