    Sammanfattning : The extracellular matrix is (ECM) is a network of large, structural proteins and polysaccharides, important for cellular behavior, tissue development and maintenance. Present thesis describes work exploring ECM as scaffolds for tissue engineering by manipulating cells cultured in vitro or by influencing ECM expression in vivo. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Risk stratification in cardiac surgery: Algorithms and applications

    Detta är en avhandling från Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund University

    Författare :Johan Nilsson; [2005]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; Cardiac surgery; Statistics; Artificial neural networks; Resource utilization; Mortality; Risk factors; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of this research was to compare different risk score algorithms with regard to their validity to predict 30-day and one-year mortality after open-heart surgery, to evaluate if the preoperative risk stratification model EuroSCORE predicts the different components of resource utilization in cardiac surgery, and to systematically evaluate the accuracy and performance of artificial neural networks (ANNs) to select and rank the most important risk factors for operative mortality in open-heart surgery. Preoperative evaluation of the surgical risk is an important component in cardiac surgery. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Pelvic Ring Injuries and Acetabular Fractures Quality of Life Following Surgical Treatment

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Tomas Borg; Sune Larsson; Hans Granhed; [2011]

  5. 5. Assessments of well-being in caring of patients undergoing surgery for gastrointestinal cancer. Studies of nutrition, activities of daily living and health related quality of life

    Detta är en avhandling från Department of Surgery, Clinical Sciences Lund, Lund University

    Författare :Kerstin Ulander; [1997]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pancreatic cancer; Nutritional status; Health related quality of life; Energy intake; Colorectal cancer; Activities of daily living; Assessment; Surgical nursing.; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim was to study some aspects of patients´ well-being, related to nutrition, activities of daily living and health related quality of life, when undergoing major gastrointestinal cancer surgery. Chart documentations (N=45) of patients undergoing subtotal pancreatectomy were studied, and showed the patients' well-being to be affected, although it was not possible to fully evaluate the results of the assessments and the care given.
