  1. 1. 11C-Acetate-PET/CT in Primary Staging of High-Risk Prostate Cancer

    Författare :Sara Strandberg; Katrine Riklund; Camilla Thellenberg-Karlsson; Jan Axelsson; Lennart Blomqvist; Jens Sörensen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiology; radiologi; Oncology; onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : Prostate cancer (PC) is the second most common cancer in men worldwide, affecting ~12%. Although most are clinically insignificant low-risk cancers, the more aggressive high-risk cancers require correct staging, prior to curative radiotherapy or surgery. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Effect of ozone on dental caries and on cariogenic microorganisms

    Författare :Elisabeth Johansson; Jan van Dijken; Rolf Claesson; Ingrid Andersson Wenckert; Lena Karlsson; Ivar Espelid; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dental caries; Ozone; Cariogenic microorganisms; odontologi; Odontology;

    Sammanfattning : There are a number of unanswered questions regarding new caries preventive methods such as ozone treatment as well as novel caries detection methods that monitor and evaluate these preventive methods. This thesis seeks answers to some of these questions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Carbon metabolism in clear-water and brown-water lakes

    Författare :Jenny Ask; Jan Karlsson; Mats Jansson; Rolf Vinebrooke; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; clear-water lakes; brown-water lakes; primary production; bacterial production; benthic; pelagic; net ecosystem production; allochthonous organic carbon; CO2; DOC; Physical geography; Naturgeografi; Freshwater ecology; Limnisk ekologi; limnologi; Limnology; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : The trophic state of lakes is commonly defined by the concentration of nutrients in the water column. High nutrient concentrations generate high phytoplankton production, and lakes with low nutrient concentrations are considered low-productive. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Cryogenic soil processes in a changing climate

    Författare :Marina Becher; Jonatan Klaminder; Johan Olofsson; Jan Karlsson; Niclas Börlin; Philip Wookey; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Non-sorted circle; Carbon storage; Soil motion; Terrestrial photogrammetry; Cryoturbation; Carbon fluxes; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : A considerable part of the global pool of terrestrial carbon is stored in high latitude soils. In these soils, repeated cycles of freezing and thawing creates soil motion (cryoturbation) that in combination with other cryogenic disturbance processes may play a profound role in controlling the carbon balance of the arctic soil. 5. 5. Effects of inorganic nitrogen and organic carbon on pelagic food webs in boreal lakes

    Författare :Anne Deininger; Ann-Kristin Bergström; Jan Karlsson; Antonia Liess; Carolyn L. Faithfull; John A. Downing; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; autochthony; basal production; boreal; global change; dissolved organic carbon; food web efficiency; N deposition; phytoplankton; seston stoichiometry; whole lake enrichment; zooplankton; limnologi; Limnology;

    Sammanfattning : Anthropogenic activities are increasing inorganic nitrogen (N) loadings to lakes in the northern hemisphere. In many boreal lakes phytoplankton are N limited, wherefore enhanced N input may affect the productivity of pelagic food webs. LÄS MER
