  1. 1. Cryogenic soil processes in a changing climate

    Författare :Marina Becher; Jonatan Klaminder; Johan Olofsson; Jan Karlsson; Niclas Börlin; Philip Wookey; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Non-sorted circle; Carbon storage; Soil motion; Terrestrial photogrammetry; Cryoturbation; Carbon fluxes; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : A considerable part of the global pool of terrestrial carbon is stored in high latitude soils. In these soils, repeated cycles of freezing and thawing creates soil motion (cryoturbation) that in combination with other cryogenic disturbance processes may play a profound role in controlling the carbon balance of the arctic soil. 2. 2. Vibrations in a Built Environment : Prediction and Reduction

    Författare :Peter Persson; Byggnadsmekanik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; vibration reduction; finite element method; coupled problems; vibration measurements; wave propagation; ground vibration; soil dynamics; wave barrier; shaped landscape; soil stabilisation; liquid-filled pipes; model order reduction;

    Sammanfattning : Vibrations in a built environment can exceed the requirements for sensitive equipment in a building or can cause annoyance to residents. Hence, there is often a need for reducing such vibrations. The vibrations can originate from ambient sources such as motorway traffic, or from internal sources such as people walking inside the building. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Dust from mining area and proposal of dust emission factors

    Författare :Qi Jia; John McManus; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Mining generates great deal of particulate matter, especially for surface mining. The principle of dust generation is based on the theory of soil wind erosion. This thesis theoretically and experimentally dealt with mining dust. In chapter 1 the development of study on soil erosion by wind and mining dust were introduced. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Interpretation of Railway Track Alignment Measurements in a Geodynamic Perspective

    Författare :Jonas Majala; Jan Laue; Thorkild Maack Rasmussen; Kenneth Viking; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Dynamic load; Railway; Frequency; Track measurement; Geoteknik; Soil Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : The development in society means that infrastructure like ballasted railway systems are facing challenges due to request for increased number of high-speed trains and heavier freight trains. This implies that ballasted railways get an increased impact from larger dynamic loads. LÄS MER

  5. 5. On the Application of Surface Wave Surveys for Seismic Site Response Evaluation

    Författare :Edwin Obando; Teknisk geologi; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Surface wave; MASW; seismic site response; ground motion; seismic transfer functions; shear wave velocity; site amplification; walk-away; near-field effect; dispersion curve.;

    Sammanfattning : In sites where earthquakes occur, the use of surface wave methods represents a convenient and effective procedure for soil characterization. In particular, Multichannel Analysis of Surface Wave (MASW) has become a popular tool in many seismic micro-zoning projects. LÄS MER
