  1. 11. The effect of tobacco exposure on bone healing and the osseointegrationof dental implants

    Författare :Shariel Sayardoust; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; crevicular fluid; dental implants; gene expression; human; implant surfaces; implant survival; marginal bone loss; osseointegration; pain; periodontitis; resonance frequently analysis; smoking; titanium;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The mechanisms behind the impact of smoking on osseointegration are not fully understood. Aim: To correlate the clinical and molecular aspects of osseointegration in smokers compared with non-smokers. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Hope Rites : An Ethnographic Study of Mechanical Help-Heart Implantation Treatment

    Författare :Haris Agic; Marja-Liisa Honkasalo; Lars-Christer Hydén; Robert Desjarlais; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical technology; uncertainty; ritual; emotions; ethnography; liminality; end-stage heart failure; mechanical help-heart; progress; hope.; Medicinsk teknologi; ovisshet; ritual; emotioner; etnografi; liminalitet; akut svår hjärtsvikt; mekaniskt hjälphjärta; framsteg; hopp.;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is about cultural aspects of advanced medical technology for treating end-stage heart failure. New medical technologies like mechanical help-hearts save lives, but they also bring new uncertainties, risks, and challenges. LÄS MER

  3. 13. On the semitendinosus tendon in anterior cruciate ligament reconstructive surgery

    Författare :Karl O Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Semitendinosus; anterior cruciate ligament; tendon regeneration; MRI; muscle morphology; muscle biopsy; tendon-to-bone healing; donor site morbidity; functional outcome;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to address issues concerning the use of the semitendinosus tendon as an autologous transplant in anterior cruciate ligament reconstructive surgery. The specific objectives of the study concern the regenerative capability of the semitendinosus tendon following its harvest, the morphology and function of the semitendinosus muscle following harvesting of its tendon, the potential for ingrowth of the semitendinosus tendon graft into the bone tunnels, the early postoperative morbidity after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with a quadruple sernitendinosus graft as compared to the commonly used bone-patellar tendon-bone graft and, finally, the outcome at a minimum 2-year follow-up on comparing the sernitendinosus tendon graft with the bone-patellar tendon-bone graft. 4. 14. On cardiovascular complications in people with type 2 diabetes : Aspects of incretin-based therapy and glycemic control

    Författare :Irene Santos Pardo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, and the presence of advanced glycation end products are key features of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and the leading mechanisms behind the increased cardiovascular risk observed in people with this condition. Percutaneous coronary revascularization has been associated with higher risk of stent failure in people with diabetes mellitus (DM), having greater risk of both in-stent restenosis (ISR) and stent thrombosis (ST). 5. 15. Plasminogen : a pleiotropic inflammatory regulator in radiation-induced wound formation and wound repair

    Författare :Mahsa Fallah; Tor Ny; Malgorzata Wilczynska; Robert Medcalf; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The plasminogen activator (PA) system plays important roles in many physiological and pathological processes, including inflammation and wound healing. Plasmin, the central component of the PA system, is a broad-spectrum serine protease that is derived from its inactive precursor form, plasminogen. LÄS MER
