1. Hope Rites : An Ethnographic Study of Mechanical Help-Heart Implantation Treatment
Sammanfattning : This thesis is about cultural aspects of advanced medical technology for treating end-stage heart failure. New medical technologies like mechanical help-hearts save lives, but they also bring new uncertainties, risks, and challenges. LÄS MER
2. Urinary Biomarkers and Patient Outcome in Chronic Kidney Disease and Atherosclerotic Heart Disease: The value of IgM-uria and IgG-uria
Sammanfattning : Risk stratification of patients with chronic kidney disease and atherosclerotic heart disease is crucial. Microalbuminuria (MA) is associated with an increased risk of kidney and cardiovascular (CV) death, especially in patients with diabetes. LÄS MER
3. The relationship between reduced renal function and cardiovascular disease
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the relationship between measures of renal function and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with hypertension (the NORDIL study) and in the healthy population (Malmö Diet and Cancer Study, MDC) and whether antihypertensive treatment response and the risk of CVD is affected by genetic variation of a regulator of the renal amiloroide sensitive sodium channel (NORDIL). In study 1 we tested creatinine, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) with Cockroft-Gault (CG) and the MDRD equations and also microalbuminuria (MA) as predictors of CVD, stroke and CVD death. 4. Wireless esophageal PH monitoring. Clinical evaluation of a new technique
Sammanfattning : Esophageal pH monitoring is important in the clinical management of patients with symptoms suggestive of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and in research aiming to clarify the mechanisms involved in the development of GERD complications. Catheter-based techniques for pH recording are uncomfortable, not well tolerated by all patients and cannot reliably measure acid exposure in the most distal esophagus the region most prone to reflux-induced complications.
