  1. 11. Population ecology and management of waders breeding on coastal meadows

    Författare :Richard Ottvall; Biodiversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Animal ecology; Djurekologi; grazing management; population modelling; demography; genetic structure; population decline; Tringa totanus;

    Sammanfattning : Many wader (Charadrii) populations are declining throughout in Europe, but the underlying causes are often poorly known and diverse. To fully grasp the reasons behind declines in vulnerable wader populations, it is crucial to understand the demography. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Paternal care, filial cannibalism and sexual conflict in the sand goby, Pomatoschistus minutus

    Författare :Maria Lissåker; Charlotta Kvarnemo; Ulrika Candolin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; female choice; filial cannibalism; Gobiidae; parental care; Pomatoschistus minutus; sand goby; sexual conflict; sexual selection; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Natural and sexual selection and sexual conflict are forces shaping the evolution of reproductive behaviour, while constrained by factors like environment, physiology and life-history trade-offs. Parental care is costly both in terms of time and energy. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Copepods in Skeletonema-dominated food webs : Toxicity and nutritional quality as factors controlling copepod-diatom interactions

    Författare :Roswati Md Amin; Ulf Båmstedt; Sigrun Jónasdóttir; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Copepod-diatom interaction; toxicity; nutritional quality; Skeletonema;

    Sammanfattning : My thesis focuses on copepod-diatom interactions, specifically on the effects of food quality and toxicity on copepod feeding, reproductive success and behavior but as a frame, also includes a quantitative evaluation of copepod carbon requirements compared to other trophic plankton groups. My aim was to evaluate the function of copepods in diatom-dominated spring blooms. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Habitat selection, nest predation and conservation biology in a Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa) population

    Författare :Tomas Johansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Black-tailed godwit; Limosa limosa; nest site selection; nest predation; philopatry; risk analysis; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; populationsbiologi; Population Biology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on a black-tailed godwit (Limosa limosa) population, consisting of 35-40 pairs, that breeds on a grazed shore meadow on SE Gotland, Sweden. The small size of the population makes it more prone to extinction due to chance events, than a larger population.The godwits showed microhabitat preferences when choosing nest sites. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Toxicogenomic responses in Daphnia magna

    Författare :Asmerom Seyoum; Per-Erik Olsson; Ajay Pradhan; Joachim Sturve; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ERA; organic pollutants; toxicogenomic; phthalate; PFAS and DBE-DBCH;

    Sammanfattning : Detection of various organic contaminants in the aquatic environment at low concentrations, has raised concerns for animal and human health. Structural similarities of these compounds to estrogens and ecdysones suggests that organic pollutants may interfere with hormonal system of aquatic organisms. LÄS MER
