6. An insight towards food-related microbial sets through metabolic modelling and functional analysis
Sammanfattning : The dietary food digestion depends on the human gastrointestinal tract, where host cells and gut microbes mutually interact. This interplay may also mediate host metabolism, as shown by microbial-derived secondary bile acids, needed for receptor signalling. Microbes are also crucial in the production of fermented foods, such as wine and dairy. LÄS MER
7. Staging and tumor biological mechanisms of lymph node metastasis in invasive urinary bladder cancer
Sammanfattning : Aim: To study the possibility of detecting lymph node metastasis in locally advanced urinary bladder cancer (UBC) treated with radical cystectomy (RC) by using preoperative positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and peroperative sentinel node biopsy (SNB) technique. We also investigate the clinical significance of macrophage traits expression by cancer cells, M2-macrophage infiltration (MI) in tumor stroma and the immunohistochemical expression of biomarkers in cancer cells in relation to clinicopathologic data. 8. Melatonin in the gastrointestinal tract
Sammanfattning : Melatonin is recognised as the pineal hormone regulating sleep and circadian rhythm. It has also been identified in peripheral tissues (mainly in animals) and thought to display a variety of actions, including anti-inflammatory properties, regulation of gastrointestinal (GI) functions, glucose homeostasis and beneficial effects in different tumour types. 9. Specific and nonspecific immune mechanisms in human gut : a comparative study of normal and ulcerative colitis intestine
Sammanfattning : The intestine, with its large mucosal surface area, digests and absorbs food nutrients and maintains a beneficial microbial flora in the colon. Local protective immune responses against intestinal pathogens ensure the survival of the individual. These immune reactions are both specific and non-specific in nature. LÄS MER
10. Irritable Bowel Syndrome : Diagnostic Symptom Criteria and Impact of Rectal Distensions on Cortisol and Electrodermal Activity
Sammanfattning : In a population prevalence questionnaire study we demonstrated that constipation and fecal incontinence are common problems in the general Swedish population with a similar magnitude as in other Western countries. 95.6% of the population had between three bowel movements per day and three per week.
