6. Glutamate and GABA signalling components in the human brain and in immune cells
Sammanfattning : Glutamate and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) are the principal excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitters in the central nervous system (CNS). They both can activate their ionotropic and metabotropic receptors. LÄS MER
7. The Cross-Talk between GABA Signalling and Metabolic Hormones in the Brain and Pancreatic Islets
Sammanfattning : GABA is a well-known neurotransmitter that can be synthesized in the central nervous system (CNS) and, interestingly, also in pancreatic islets. Once released, GABA activates GABA-A channels tonically or transiently resulting in different physiological functions. LÄS MER
8. Consequences of rape : injuries, posttraumatic stress and neuroendocrinological changes
Sammanfattning : Each year, approximately 3-4% of the Swedish female population experiences a sexual assault. Only a small percentage of these women will report the assault to the police, and even fewer will seek medical help. LÄS MER
9. Insulin promotes GABA signalling modulation in both the mouse hippocampus and human CD4+ T cells
Sammanfattning : Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the most common inhibitory neurotransmitter in the adult mammalian brain, where it mediates several biological functions. Rapid inhibition is predominantly mediated by the activation of GABA-A receptors that are ubiquitously expressed across the central nervous system in a cell-, circuit-, or region-specific manner. 10. Circadian rhythm dysfunction in the suprachiasmatic nucleus : effects of Trypanosoma brucei brucei infection and inflammatory cytokines
Sammanfattning : Alterations in the mammalian circadian pacemaker, the hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nuclei (SCN), were studied in an experimental rat model of African trypanosomiasis, or sleeping sickness, caused by infections with subspecies of Trypanosoma brucei (T b). Characteristic signs of the disease are marked disturbances in circadian rhythms, such as a fragmentation of the sleep-wake cycle. LÄS MER
