  1. 11. Strategic nitrogen management in stockless organic cropping systems : redistribution of residual biomass for improved energy and nitrogen balance

    Författare :Tora Råberg; Sweden SLU; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; bioenergy; biomass management; crop rotation; ecological intensification; green manure; life cycle assessment; nitrogen cycling; organic agriculture; soil incubation; stockless cropping systems;

    Sammanfattning : Agriculture faces the challenge of producing high yields to feed a growing world population, while simultaneously addressing environmental problems such as eutrophication, emissions of greenhouse gases, loss of biodiversity and soil degradation. Organic farming can be part of the solution, as it promotes biodiversity, uses less energy for fertiliser production and often has higher inputs of organic matter to soil than conventional farming. 2. 12. Characterization of the DNA-Binding Properties of the Cyanobacterial Transcription Factor NtcA

    Författare :Susanne Wisén; Bengt Mannervik; Enrique Flores; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; NtcA; transcription regulation; cyanobacteria; redox regulation; DNA binding; nitrogen fixation; Anabaena PCC 7120; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Nitrogen is an essential building block of proteins and nucleic acids and, therefore, crucial for the biosphere. Nearly 79 % of the air consists of nitrogen, but in the form of nitrogen gas (N2), which cannot be utilized by most organisms. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Filamentous cyanobacteria in the Baltic Sea - spatiotemporal patterns and nitrogen fixation

    Författare :Lisa Almesjö; Ragnar Elmgren; Norbert Wasmund; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Aphanizomenon sp.; Nodularia spumigena; Baltic Sea; image analysis; spatial variability; nitrogen fixation; vertical migration; marin ekologi; Marine Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Summer blooms of filamentous, diazotrophic cyanobacteria are typical of the Baltic Sea Proper, and are dominated by Aphanizomenon sp. and the toxic Nodularia spumigena. Although occurring every summer, the blooms vary greatly in timing and spatial distribution, making monitoring difficult and imprecise. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Functional genomics of the Baltic Sea cyanobacterium Nodularia spumigena in relation to nitrogen fixation, heterocyst differentiation and toxin production

    Författare :Simina Vintila; Rehab El-Shehawy; Peter Lindblad; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cyanobacteria; Nodularia; nitrogen fixation; heterocyst; nitrogenase; ammonium; phosphate; nodularin; Baltic Sea; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Nodularia spumigena is a filamentous, heterocystous cyanobacterium that dominates the annual, toxic cyanobacterial blooms in the Baltic Sea. The blooms are believed to have increased in recent years, due to eutrophication by phosphate and/or nitrogen. Toxicity of these blooms is well-documented and attributed to the hepatotoxin nodularin.
